Exhaust/ Muffler Rattle - Did you have this?

Well.. it looks like I got it. Just not sure what the fix for it is... I just ran to the stores before posting this to pay special attention to when I heard it... sure enough, when I drive through a bumpy, hilly parking lot or a really bumpy road I hear the exhaust rattle (its not terrible and does not happen on smooth surfaces or a bump here or there... but get on a bumpy road or a bumpy parking lot and it starts to come alive and make some noise and is noticeable).

Here is what it sounds like ... I filmed this yesterday of me pulling on the muffler which recreates the noise I hear.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8soY...ature=youtu.be I pulled on the bar that slides in the rubber grip (circled in the picture) and it had movement. I think its supposed to though?

Did anyone else come across this on their G? Does this just require some grease or a bracket be replaced?

or does this require a new muffler?... if so from the cats back or can I get away with doing less then that. I am hoping its just a bolt or bracket or grease I can lube but didn't see anything on this or am I just missing it?

The car is an 04 couple with 79k miles on it.

Thanks guys...

Chris

Those hangers are actually supposed to provide a slightly flexible buffer for a reasonably minimal degree of exhaust movement. It shouldn't be hitting against anything though. Is the hanger damaged at all, and possibly allowing the exhaust to hang lower than it should so that it bumps into the unibody or other components under the car under extreme cornering or while driving through bumpy patches of roadways?

Usually those hangers are pretty thick and very sturdy though. I've cut a ton of them off of cars in the past while doing exhaust changes and they take quite a bit of hacking to remove and are generally more robust than you would initially think for a mere piece of rubber.

Replace the rubber hangers and clean the exhaust hangers and hopefully that will take care of it. Wouldn't hurt to make sure all the exhaust bolts are tight while you're down there.

One sure way to find the noise your exhaust system is making, get it on a rack with the motor running. System noises travel, I've never heard of a rubber hanger making a noise....they don't! Normally the only noise the OE exhaust system makes is when the converter covers get loose. Best advice, go to your local muffler shop they find issues like your 6 days a week....Gary
