Confused to which oil I should use
Confused to which oil I should use
After doing about an hour of reading about oil on this forum it has complicated my thoughts. My 05 coupe has 124k miles on it. So my question is should I use dino oil, high mileage , or synthetic? I just bought the car so im not 100% if its burning oil but after 500 miles it seems like its not.
I just switched from regular oil to Mobil 1 extended full synthetic and have 79k miles (Mobil claims this oil is good for 15k miles). I put maybe 5k a year on this car so figured I would change it out once a year. But I was just checking out Walmart, they sell a 5 gallon jug of it for $27. (I paid $54 on Amazon, ships and sold by Amazon). I got ripped. Walmart is the place to buy your oil and is stocked in most of their stores I think so you can pick it up locally. Its cheap enough to switch it out every 6 months or 5k miles if you want to be way overly aggressive in your changes. Now if only they sold a quick release mat for under our cars so we don't have to take 15 bolts out everytime we want to do an oil change.
What you should have done was asked the previous owner what oil he's been using if possible. Mobil 1 is a decent synthetic but I'd suggest using a quality filter like WIX and change it every 4K miles. You need to keep this high mileage coupe happy....Gary
Any suggestion where to purchase a WIX filter?
