My most recent oil change was at infiniti on 5-21-2013. this past saturday 6-1-2013, the engine died while driving at 230pm in afternoon, there was no rain, was about to turn into neighborhood. heard a snap then a clunk clunk, steering stiffened, was able to get car off the road. I had it towed to nissan. Car sat saturday night till monday morning. Nissan came back and said the engine is seized up. It wont crank forward or back with breaker bar. determined new engine is needed. Called infiniti consumer affairs. They said bring it to infiniti for diagnosis. Had car towed 2nd time to infiniti. Drove up 2nd day and Infiniti stated rod inside engine broke and shot out the block and created massive hole in drivers side engine block. The hole us bout big as your hand. Infiniti consumer affairs, came back today and said cannot help at all.
Every oil change was documented through Infiniti dealer or Nissan dealer. They have all the records too. Also radiator flush, tran flush, drive belts, 2 4w alignments, brand new pirellis, new brake pads, front rotors turned, rears de glazed, every oil change documented. Car was garage kept. 2006, G35 AT with only 75k miles.
Could wrong type of oil cause this or possibly not enough oil?
Infiniti told me it was lack of lubrication or redlining in an AT.
Ideas?

1) how often were the oil changes?
2) what type of oil was used?
3) did you ever check the oil level between changes?
the revup engines are NOTORIOUS for drinking oil, and frequently running the oil low (even if the oil is changed every 3-5k miles) can result in permanent bearing damage over time. Most likely what happened here. My guess is either one of the rod or main bearings finally said f*ck it and decided to spin or seize. Did the dealership ever mention anything to you about oil consumption, low oil level, or anything along those lines while doing any of the regular oil changes?
