Absolutely no reason to "warm up" a modern car with factory internals. If you've got a built motor its a completely different story tho since the clearances are going to be different and the aftermarket parts will have different expansion properties.

Don't drive it hard until its warmed up (needle in the middle at operating temp) but there is no need to sit in the parking log burning gas unless you're still inside waiting for the heater

Coupe, Premium package, sport suspension
I start and let it idle fast for about 20 sec, put it in gear (5AT) and sit tight for 10 sec, leggo the brake, and drive granddad style till the needle starts to warm, then ease into regular driving. The two-part sit before go is in my mind to get fluids in circulation before applying load. Don't know if it makes any difference in actuality, but at least it makes me feel good.

XNick cold idle is + or - 1500 rpm and I'll wait until it's dropped below 1K and still not rev it because my oil pressure is 100+ psi at 2500 rpm until it's totally warms up. There's no recommended time that I know of. Takes about 3 minutes for my RPMs to drop to 1K rpm winter/summer since [B]SLICK is garage kept. Hope this gives you some idea of a warmup time....Gary

from the owners manual.

"Warm-up
Allow the engine to idle for at least 30
seconds after starting. Drive at moderate
speed for a short distance first, especially in
cold weather."

i usually wait a minute or 2 and drive moderate until fully warmed up

Yes thank you sir. I was actually looking for it in the owner's manual but you beat me to it.
So in conclusion waiting 5 minutes in the summer time is ridiculous and a waste of gas. And not waiting can cause problems though it has not been proven/verified.

5 is a bit long. Imo jus Cus its hot out doesn't really mean the engine internals are going to be right at running temp. Jus gotta let the oil circulate n warm up a bit that's all. Warm up a bit more during cold seasons.

I'm with Gary, I have always waited for the RPM's to get to 1K before putting her into gear. I have a 5AT and it seems easier on the tranny as well.
This method seems perfect for hot or cold weather.

Right around 1100 rpm is when I start driving and that takes about 1 min - 2 min. In that time I am getting my belt on, putting up my bag and phone. Setting up the navigation or choosing my music. Then time to roll off and row through gears while other click their way from one gear to the next

i wait until my idle drops down to normal rpm...maybe about a minute after shes been sitting all night

on a side note...do g35s when cold started have a high idle...mind sits at about 1800 when first fired up and drops to about 1000 after about a minute

Yes they idle higher until the engine warms up. Mormal idle should be between 650-700 RPMs so you're still idling high at 1000.

I let my car "warm up" for about one minute before I start driving. Once I start driving, I do so at a moderate spped until the temperature gauge is at normal operating temperature.

Enough time for me to put seatbelt on and set the radio station...even when it's 5 degrees outside.

I just take it easy when the car is cold...and by cold I mean under 20 degrees. I love reading threads from Cali guys asking how long they should warm their car up when it's 50 degrees outside.

Engine wears most when its cold. In winter I usually wait for steam. Summer, just enough time to let oil circulate.

I mean in Tokyo Drift when DK came to kill Han,,he didnt warm up his car; he was tach bouncing the damn thing out of the garage at 11k rpm or so.

Not at all, straight from the turnkey to 6000 rpm in as quick as I can get room to do so.
