Key Fob doesn't work unless you're on top of the car

Seems like a common issue with a few G/Z guys I've talked to, but does anyone have a resolve for this???

My remote only works within about 10 Feet of the car. I have to be stupid close to it, it's incredibly irritating.
I've tried new batteries with minimal change.

Anyone?

Ditto.. The only trick I know is to hold the remote up to and under your chin. It uses your head/body like an antenna. I swear, try it

I've read about the chin trick but honestly, looking like a moron while trying to roll my windows down or open my car is not high on my list of wants. The car already has enough little quirks for an "Infiniti".

I'm hoping for some type of antenna upgrade or something.

I'm pretty sure the Car's antenna is built into the BCM so I'm sure that would be hard/not possible to extend, but I wonder if we could swap the antenna in the fob for one with better range, or would that screw up the frequency? Anyone know?

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
My fob will open the car from over 50 yards so I'm not sure why your's is different, different years perhaps. I do like the I-key though, just push the button on the door and no need to fumble around in your pocket for them. Can't tell you the last time I used the fob.

Hmmm I have a spare key fob, I think I'm going to do some experimentation ..... This is really driving me mental. Even with the chin trick I still need to be within 30 feet even to lock the car.

It's a safety feature actually so you don't accidentally unlock your car and so other people don't unlock it with their fobs running on the same frequency. I agree though its really annoying the chin thing works very well though lol

I am so glad I actually read this...reading the thread title my brain was thinking...why the hell is he standing on top of the car? LOL
This is good to know...I have an alarm under my bed waiting for a car so if the key fob is sketchy then I have a back up already.

Mine seems to be getting worse, I'm going to try another new battery, maybe the one I got was bad.

The chin trick isn't even working properly for me, I still have to be within 10 feet, that's REALLY close.

As far as the safety feature, I call BS, I've read that a bunch of times, yet, Infiniti fixed this problem in the years shortly after because of so many complaints. Clearly it was a screw up that they covered up very intelligently with a 'security' angle. Just my thoughts, could easily be wrong.

I'm going to order a newer Infinti key fob off ebay and try to swap internals with the antenna as well.

Mine works a little better than 10 feet and I still wonder every time when I sit down in a restaurant if I just unlocked it and left it fair game for some DF.

Let us know if the battery worked and if it doesn't, let us know which key fob body you get and if it works any better.

I live in Canada also, in a decent area, I'm more worried about convenience then getting robbed lol.

Trust me it has nothing to do with the fob it's the car itself. My fob works on both my coupe and my xterra. I have to be within about 10 feet (20-25 feet with the chin trick) for it to lock/unlock the car yet I can be easily 80-100 feet away from my xterra. Again same key fob it is a safety feature on the g35 that or it has a very weak receiver and it conveniently doubles as a safety feature

If you unlock it and don't open a door it auto relocks itself after about 1-2 minutes so you can eat worry free lol
