I got my on 1/20, and so far, it has approx 850 miles on it. hehe. Yeah, I too can't wait for the break-in to be over, I would say about another 1-2 weeks at the most. I have to drive like a pu$$y rite now, and that’s not cool. I want to push the car harder ya know. I suggest, if you want to get to 1200 miles, the fastest way is to plan a lil vacation for yourself or with your love ones. Trust me, ur not gonna mind, since your still under 1200 miles..hehe. Good luck.

Get an oil change. Now get on it and run up the rpms. Just do not over load the ride. Fast engines get broke in fast. Keep you oil dino" and thin. 10-30
tear em up baby.

hey you guys, something i dont understand... about this BREAK-IN period...

i read my manual after like 3000miles when i had to do my oil change, thats when i realize O **** BREAK-IN?

well, it was too late already...
the day i drove off the lot, i hit red line... going home on the freeway i hit 120 already...

i mean... when i saw the break in on the manual, i was like, when people test drive cars at the dealer... they floor that ****... when the sales took me for a test drive, he drove me in a coupe to another lot, when he left the lot, he just floor that **** to like 5500... i was like hmm pretty fast

good thing my car came in new, it was still wrapped... but what i'm saying is... the cars you drive off the lot, unless is wrapped... its been driven already... you never know how that person drives it...

whats the point of even driving slow for the next 1200 miles when the first 10 miles was driven hard in... pretty sure people that test drive cars... (people like me) drive it hard

SO JUST STEP ON IT... you'll probably lose like 1HP if you do the 1200 break in and your engine might last 250000miles... but u wont be driving that car for that long anyways

actually every car on the lot has been driven, wrapped or not, they should have about 6 or so miles on them.....mine had 8. I'm not waiting 1200 miles though, Im at 375 and I will get on it around 1000.

Again the engine is broken in around 50 miles, just get your oil changed and FLOOR IT! Your not doing anything but getting 1000mpg right now.

even if you dont believe VQ's still need break-in , then at least try to remember youre also breaking in the drivetrain. The transmission doesnt like being hammered right off the lot.

Of course salespeople beat some cars on the lot and there isnt any direct corelation to failures. So, its just an ounce of prevention.

While I believe in break-in (especially on VQs), its often not safe to merge without hitting 4K+. You gotta do what you gotta do. Youre not going to hurt anything.. just use some common sense on doing it constantly or maintaining redline for the first miles.

Dont forget, over 4K, youre hauling much a$$ and the G isnt exactly quiet. Trying not to get your first ticket in the G can also help you maintain breakin. But yeah, its not exactly easy to do. Or as I said earlier, nearly impossible in other traffic.

As stated above, get an oil change way before the manual says the first one is needed at the 3,500 mark. Blackstone reports clearly shows there is a return for doing the first oil change at the 1,000 mile mark on the VQ. I would under no circumstances, run it hard without that first oil change.

Many years ago it was common practice to schedule an oil & filter change at 1,000 miles and drain the oil thru a screen filter. The filter was then checked for metal with a magnet. I requested this on my last two cars (a Dodge & a Mitsubishi) and in each case the service manager looked at me as if I was nuts.

When my wife's 05 6MT gets here we'll do the same, but I wonder if I'm a little out of touch. (On lots of things. lol

i used to put magnetic oil plugs in my older cars.... to try and keep the metal bits away from the rest of the oil... but why would u physically check the metal parts? the engine is made up of metal parts constantly shaving at each other ... wouldn't u always find metal parts in the oil? please explain.

I agree....you have to get any metal shavings out of there before you let it rip. I changed mine at 1000 and have changed it again at 3000 and will change it every 3000 from here on. There's no sense being cheap on oil with the VQ.

I own a '91 300ZX (VG30DE engine) with 165,000 miles and change the oil every 3000 miles and that's why my latest Blackstone on the 300ZX came out awesome.

On another note, I changed the rear diff fluid at 2000 miles on the G and there were a LOT of metal shavings in there.

To detect any abnormal wear early. Again, this may not be of value in current times. It was a common approach in the days of 25 cent a gallon leaded gasoline.

Whatever your side is the first oil change, just remember ], it can't hurt to have to done before the 1st 1000 miles. Its $20-25. Dont put synthetic oiil in their until about the 2nd-3rd oil change.
