Is it time to upgrade??
Just drive what you like. I think the original G35 is a classic. The original car that saved infiniti and solidified infiniti as the Japanese BMW, so the car has heritage and respect. Not like the garbage there going with the q50 and q60.
I can see how you feel especially in SoCal. I've been all over the country and world, and nowhere else in the world does like SoCal in the car enthusiasts world. The level of car modding and the scene in general is on a whole different level. If you want to be known in SoCal, you have to step up your game. Being in the military, Ive seen guys who were "the ****" in their home town in the middle nowhere Alabama move to SoCal and quickly realize that SoCal doesn't play. Even high dollar cars can get "played out".
OP, the G35 is still a fantastic car. Its getting old and younger, dumber people can afford them now. That's just the nature of the beast. Give it 10 years and you'll see a load of G37s with shopping cart wings and rice that would make Japan go "wow". But you cant let those kind of things get to you. If you enjoy the car and the experience of owning it then that is all that matters. Who cares if it's not the fastest, most technologically advanced car on the road as long as you like it. When you see a riced out G35 then just take pity on the poor soul and make an effort to keep yours tasteful and in great condition.
Sometimes i'm glad I live up in the sticks. Everyone I associate with is genuinely interested in cars and not how other people in the "scene" see them...
Hell, I live out in Bama and hardly ever see G's around but when I do they're "riced out" with cheap parts and spray paint but when I tastefully mod mine it's good to have a one of a kind car that turns heads all day. It might not be "one of a kind" in so cal and I some other places but out here it is. All I ever see are POS civics and acuras.
That's exactly whats wrong with the "SoCal" scene. Its on a whole different level but not in a good way... It's not a pure enthusiast group anymore. It's just a bunch of yuppies who think that spending ridiculous amounts of money on the latest and greatest will get them "respect in the scene". Its a pissing contest to see who has the "dopest" ride. That whole lifestyle is played out, not the cars...
No, thankfully. But I am active on a lot of forums and its all the same BS. I'm going out on a limb to assume that there are so many band-wagoneers and wanna-be's on the forums from Cali solely because of the sheer number of people/cars there compared to areas like the midwest. So its probably relative. But I did spend a week in SoCal for work training and I felt like I was in an episode of Laguna Beach. It was terrible. Materialism truly knows no bounds in the wild wild west...

Most of us on here aren't yuppies either.
If I wanted to keep my car, I would just mod it so it could compete with modern day sports cars performance wise.
I'm not sure what areas of SoCal you're referring to, but where I live in Orange County, I have yet to see a riced out G35.
I'm only a month-in of owning my G but in my area it seems that I usually see G35s that are only debagged and slapped with nice rims...nothing more.
I may not be happy with the shitty TV shows that give our area a bad name, but I enjoy our car scene.

I like to be proven wrong, and I would love the chance to go back under non-work pretenses but my time there left a sour taste in my mouth. Maybe im just too "northern"...
...That was just the first thing that came to mind when I was there... I was there for a while, (a week is conservative) as our work training program there is 2 1/2 weeks long. Not saying its a bad place to be because I would trade MN winters for sandy beaches hands down. But FROM WHAT I SAW, and much like the initial aim of this thread, It was more of a "look at me, look how much money I spent on this" atmosphere than anything else.
Like I said, I have yet to see any riced out Gs in my area and would be the first to back you up if I had. I'm not sure where you trained at but it definitely did not give you the opportunity to see the effort that some G owners throw into their whips.
