One thing I would love on the G...
One thing I would love on the G...
A redline indicator! I have heard the Z has this and would love something like it for the G. I just spanked a Grand Prix GTP (wasn't even a contest) but I realized how unpleasant it can be bumping off the rev limiter. Anyone know of an aftermarket for this sort of thing?
Re: One thing I would love on the G...
are you talking about the shift light. If you are i think the only to add that would be to get another tacometer that has one already in it. The only other thing i have seen that has one is that G-tec pro. It messerures ur hourse power and stuff to but it also shows ur RPMs. and when to shift
Re: One thing I would love on the G...
Yes, the shift light...as long as it comes on right when you're about to hit the limiter I think it would be a nice feature. Maybe I'll look into the G-tec.
Re: One thing I would love on the G...
Shift lights are usually there to let you know when to shift for fuel economy, if you're so inclined. Otherwise, they're easily ignored. Of course, I have a friend with a base model Saturn who always shifts well before the light comes on.. and the transmission lugs through each gear. Poor Saturn.

Errr...where did I say I lost? I smoked the Grand Prix, I was just saying that I noticed that while racing I hit redline and bounced off the limiter. A light warning me would have bought me that extra third of a second.

No man, he said he spanked a Grand Prix. As in torched it, smoked it, tore it up, showed it his taillights...
Don't ever suggest an automatic to a G35 owner!! :-)
Anyway, I agree that the rev limiter is pretty harsh... hit it the other day and was NOT pleased at all. However, a shift light ain't gonna help you from bouncing off it, believe me. By the time you see the light, unless it's at about 5,500 RPM's, you're gonna be bouncing off the limiter anyway simply because of reaction time (in first or second, anyway). The engine revs too fast for most drivers to react in time.
Personally, I'd just try to get used to shifting at 6,000 RPM's... get a feel for how the car reacts at that point, practice keeping a half an eye on the tach while revving it up. The difference between getting to 6,000 and 6,500 is nominal anyway, and assures you'll not be hampered by Mr. Rev Limiter. If you want to take it a bit above in second or third that's one thing, you'll have a bit more time to react - but in first, you'll be good if you can consistently hit 6,000 shift points to begin with, let alone trying to hit a perfect 6,400 point using a shift light.

Re: One thing I would love on the G...
Conquie, good points....I guess I just feel the need to squeeze every drop out of each gear so I shift at the last possible second, 6000 RPMs is just too damn early.
Come to think of it I may not like a shift light after all...since in order to warn you in time for you to react it would need to go on in the 5k RPM range and it would probably get annoying to see it every time you're in that range.

I hate to bring this up, but the RX-8 has a redline of 9000. Not much torque (only 159 LOL), but ya gotta love the ability to wind that thing up. Rotary's are fun to drive, but I'll stick with the G's torque.

lol, if your wonderin why im postin so much, and being stupid... its because the edit function is not working right now.. so in the future if a moderator may please delete these dumb posts.. it would be greatly appreciated. I WAS RIGHT! haha, just looked it up to double check and redline is 9000, but peak hp is achieved @ 8300.
Re: One thing I would love on the G...
Rev limiter/fuel cutoff for the S2000 comes at around 9200 rpm. It's such a difference driving the G as it has plenty of torque but doesn't rev that high. I have to re-learn my drving habits!

Edit works for me. Picture posting works for me too, though. It could be a slow-internet problem. I wouldn't worry about it. You'll boost your post-count title faster that way.
