Sunroof Problem

Yesterday I had the famous sunroof issue with the bolts coming loose. Took the headliner partially down to tighten and got it all back together, now I cant get the roof to relearn. When I push the Up/Close button to reset itself it tilts up, closes, tilts up, closes and then kinda pulls back into the cab (maybe 1/2 inch) like it will open all the way. That is far as it goes.

What do I need to try to do? I was thinking about pulling the battery and hopefully letting it reset itself that way. I want to make that the last resort if possible. Any suggestions?

You didn't say year, but I think they are all the same. This FSM is for 2005

The first step when holding it for 10 seconds works, it tilts up and down. But then when I hold it again it tilts up and down and then tries to retract but seems like its binding up and stops. How do I try to put it back on track? Could it of jumped a couple of teeth when the motor was loose causing it to be sorta ****-eyed?

GOT DANG!

This is the first thread I've found that actually lists my problem!! I've been struggling to solve this issue for 6 months since I picked up my second '06 G sedan (6mt c. It tilts up and closes fine, but when you try to roll it back it only lowers a little but does not retract at all.

Yesterday I spend an afternoon in the junkyard tearing into another G, removing the sunroof assembly, and figuring out how it works. Through hours of experimenting, I've come to the conclusion that the front carrier is not connected to the cable anymore, because when I detach the motor and manually move the carriers back, then reattach the motor and try to move it forward, only the rear carrier moves, replicating the 'tilt-up' motion, but the rails are under the roof which would only serve to break the assembly further. Sorry if that doesn't make sense, mostly thinking out loud to see if I can finally figure out how to f$*#($%#()*$%king fix this problem and have a working sunroof. Just in time for fall/winter!!
