Can't get into park without removing the plastic bezel around gear

After doing a ipod connector install, I put everything back together, and I tried to put the gear into park and it would not let me go into park but everything else. I took a picture of the culprit. That plastic thing kept moving off the track. Now the problem is that the shifter won't sit on lever anymore. Yes I put the little metal retainer clip in but every time I press the release button the shifter jumps back up and it won't engage move through any gears. Anyone had this happen before?

Make sure the shift **** goes through that hole when you're putting it back, I did that too once and had a hard time getting the car out of park!

I figured it out after a visit to Infiniti and they couldn't even figure it out. Infiniti tried replacing the bezel and it didn't fix it.I noticed that there was a piece of carpet in between the park lever lock piece and wouldn't let the gear into that spot. Took the piece of carpet out and BAM everything is fine. Infiniti was nice enough to refund me on bezel
