Fwiw I just did the motor pull it in the drive for ease....I do have a heated bay in the garage dedicated.... still not near enough space.

Great thread and sub'd... My build is going on for over a year because of me having no time lol. But the next 2 months will be busy. For the harness I would go with Jon at PSI Conversion, he does custom harnesses that are readily available. I ordered mine over a weekend and received it on a Wed(3 business days).it also comes with a pigtail wire for the CEL,pigtail wire for all sensors to gauges and also a OBDII serial port.

As far as gauges I am too opting for the can bus speedhut gauges but haven't figured the space for all the gauges. I'm thinking of using a race-technology standalone dash that has all the needed gauges,warning lights/high beam/CEL etc as my other alternative.

As for AC it is a one wire hookup to the controller, for lines you need custom which "can" be done.

OK....last night puttering around in the garage at 10pm....looking for something to do.

Looked at my headlights on the shelf and they look pitiful. Hazing, yellowing ....ughlhgh.

A couple years ago I was building custom pokertables with custome paint on the racetrack.......I used top of the line automotive clearcoat to protect the paint. To take the clear from as sprayed to that super shiny deep paint look I had gotten an array of buffing stuff......

I figure the acrylic of the headlight cover is not that different....so what the heck I have all the stuff.....basically free.

Starting with the heaviest cutting compound with lots of water a terry cloth by hand
Then the swirl remover on the electric buffer sheeps wool pad
Polish 1 terry cloth by hand
Final Polish terry cloth by hand

20 minutes later......done......although some of the surface pits are still there from rocks etc...remember 200k miles.... the dang thing looks like new. Maybe I could go one step back and do wet sanding with 800 grit paper then 1000 grit paper then the 4 steps of buffing to take a bit more material off and get more of the pits out....but really not necessary.

I do think that now the material will oxidize faster than the original because I suspect they treat the outer surface with some sort of coating......however I think I'm going to try some different clear coat wax to see if it withstands the sun and weather better.

but for $0 and a bit of elbow grease I'm pleased with the results.....no big deal to do that once a year.

Any thoughts on a coating to put on ?

 

Might I suggest using clear 3m wrap/clear bra to protect those headlights after the work already put into them? I too had hazy headlights and would sand, polish wax them to make them look brand new again but within 6 months they would required more re-treatment....the last time I decided to apply 3m clear overlay to them & its been over a year and they still look flawless. The material wasn't very expensive and didn't take much time to apply.

Its worth looking into if you don't wanna have to repeat the process every so often, plus the material is actually rather thick and helps protect against rock chips etc.

Sick build btw. Ive always wanted to try a american v8 motor swap just to mix it up but haven't yet! Please post videos and such when its completed, im curious how it feels in this body style and such.

Will you need to upgrade the suspension to stiffer rates to compensate for the additional engine weight?
Adding any other power adders besides the cam swap?

^^^ What he said. Years ago when I refinished my 04 headlights, I wetsanded, polished, buffed, and then threw some 3M over them. They stayed perfect.

 

For now probably just a cold air intake. I do plan to do coilovers. Looking at k-sport. Maybe some gspec stiffening stuff and sway bars HKS maybe.

 

Nice, with that platform to begin with im sure simple i/h/e will really open her up, especially with a cam upgrade! Just remember if you really start to stiffen her up those vibrations will just go somewhere else. I went all out on my weekend car to stiffen up the suspension & although it now hooks like a bat out of hell........ even at idle I have vibrations inside the cabin.

I saw you said it was your DD so just wanted to throw that out there. looking good!

Nice build. Im converting my 05 G35 coupe also but with the hot cam LS3 and a fully built 4L60E. I used Chase Bay and I'm buying the sikki kit tomorrow. I built my own guage pod and a battery, fuel cut off switches and re-located the battery in the trunk. Using the Hammer Shifter for the tranny.
