So while I was installing my z-tube yesterday I took a closer look at my engine. It looks like there is dried up oil all over the engine. It's on the fuel rails,the bottom of the block, the little cover below the spark plugs, all over the intake, and the dipstick area. But it doesn't actually look like oil more like crazy amounts of grease. I attached some pictures if anyone can identify the substance.

 

ehhhh.. my dip stick area is pretty dirty with old oil like yours.. probably the dripping oil when I pull out the stick to check

 

It looks like a combination of oil and dirt.

 

Oil doesn't dry up, but what you're seeing is oil with a bunch of dirt caught in it. You probably have an oil leak somewhere in the motor that you hadn't previously noticed.

Any undetected oil leak in a motor will look like that after a little bit of time passes. Try to clean it up as much as possible and that should make it easier to detect where the leak's origins are.

 

Well I can't be certain since I only had the car for less then 5000 miles now. I did an oil change after 3000 miles and 4.7 quarts came out so I don't think it's leaking. I was beating on it so it might have burned the rest. My friend told me someone might have spilled a lot of oil while trying to fill it up.

 

previous owner may have had to replace the valve covers and never cleaned the old oil gunk off... kinda defeats the purpose.. then u cant tell if its still leaking

 

clean and see if it comes back. if it does then u gotta change the gasket. maybe even a new oil dipstick

 

Snif, snif smells like old oil from a valve cover leak or a blind person changing oil. Use an engine degreaser and water "Very Carefully" to remove all that krud. Do not just spray water all over your motor, sensors dislike water and are very expensive to replace!

Leaking valve cover. Mines looks the same. funny how my passenger bank is dry, is yours as well??Maybe its a poor dipstick seal?

 

I believe you guys are right. Yes my passenger bank is completely dry. I'm not losing oil so I guess the previous owner had it changed.
