Been talking to a buddy of mine at work about the power of a supercharger and he suggest that if I really want power, go out and install one of these. First, I've read about "SC" on this board but do not really know what it is. Is this something I can get installed at the dealership? Will it void my warranty? Is it risky?

My buddy seems to think a SC kit will give me easily 100+ HP for my 05G35C. The stock G gives me the power I need but if the price is reasonable and no major problems exist on the horizon....I might do it. Any thoughts on this?

A supercharger is ran by a belt and pullies. It forces extra air into the engine to increase the horsepower and torque. They usually run between 3 and 6 thousand dollars. You can ruin an engine with one of these if you are not careful.

 

Don't know about the dealer installing them, but I do know it's pretty pricey, for me atleast. An average supercharger prabably cost around 5k without the installation. I've been wanting one as well, but can't afford it on my budget.

You can choose from stillen, vortec, or procharger i believe. Many memebers on this forum runs these supercharger and most claims that they dyno at 370-390hp at the wheel. I think that's a little over 100hp gain from stock, with some mods of course.

As for the risky part, any mods can be consider risky depending on how you treat it, maintain it, or push it. It might be some work in terms of maintaning it and yearly/monthly tuning.

If you feel power hungry go for a twin turbo! Just be prepared to acquire some knowledge of engine work and stuff like that, force induction can sometime be a b****, but the power makes up for it. lol

Going FI is no small task, and it has its risk (moreso with turbo). I suggest you really educate yourself before considering it.

 

For one that will still carry a warranty (Stillen w/ the optional warranty) you will need a new hood and a few other small components. With paint and install and everything you're easily looking at 6-7K at most shops. It's definitely not cheap, but the end result is very nice once it's tuned and everything.

 

A SC runs off your crank to run the compressor while a turbo runs off exhaust gases by spinning a turbine directly coupled to the compressor. Typically, turbos will have "turbo lag" while SC tend to have instant throttle response.
