has the '05 MT made improvements over the previous model year manual transmissions?
i've read auto mag. reviews complaining of high clutch pedal effort in MY '04 and before in the G35; and the 350Z [same tranny?] has been criticized for lack of direct/precise feel to the gearbox...
looking at buying a new '05 6MT coupe sport, so curious as to what others think...

My recommendation would be to drive one and make your decision from there. I've driven the 04, and own an 05, and the only difference I can tell is that the 05 is a little easier to shift (less effort required to move the shifter). Clutch engagement is a little high for my tastes (towards the end of the travel as opposed to closer to the floor) and gearbox is slightly notchy, but overall I think it's a good box. Not up to Honda/Acura quality, but close.

Jason said it best He is 100% right on. I do wish first gear was a little taller. The first ---to-- second shift is a little tricky to do smooth.Originally Posted by jwarner

the clutch is a little high, but i adjusted mine (lower engagement point) and after that the shifts are very easy and smooth to do. nos_gee is right, 1st -2nd is tricky but still can be done smoothly. i like it alot, needs no effort to shift. its a beautiful thing

^^^ best response. the only problem i find with the clutch is the travel distance... too far! my former acura puts it to shame... was like a button in that thing. there is some notchiness... but i only find it a problem in 1st and 2nd. if your in a colder climate (like i am) u'll find shifting in the morning a little difficult (sometimes need to double clutch)... gets much better after warm-up. i've had no problems shifting into second... how come u guys don't find it so smooth? gear spacing between shifts feels fine to me.... much better than my acura cl... which for some reason had a really short 1st gear compared to the others. overall the gearbox feels just fine. u want to drive a bad manual car... test drive a corvette. i've already owned 2 ... and it feels like a tractor compared to this thing. drive it at the dealer... i'm sure u'll love it as i and countless others do.Originally Posted by jwarner

That's where you can read how to do the clutch pedal engagement-point adjustement.
TIP: Do yourself a favor and just read how to do the procedure. You'll regret getting bogged down in the pages of speculation about premature wear and highly technical conversations that side-track the thread.
In the end, you'll have no real answer to the wear question, however, the consensus is that some premature wear would be considered a reasonable trade-off. All who have done this, it appears, love the results. I have yet to see a rash of early clutch failures on this sight from people who have done this. It will be one of the first things I do when I take delivery of my '05. I've been dealing with a high clutch pedal for the past couple of years in this other car and I'm certain the clutch is destined for a short life (only has 8K miles now). I'm not going to struggle with the G only to end up in the same situation.
