I have this problem - and only with 3rd gear as well. It isn't a complete "grind", but more of a "catch" grind for a split second.... but still it sound terrible, especially when going WOT/Racing. I was told it was a synchro problem that I'd need to get fixed....
wasn't sure if I was the only one with this issue or if it was common among G35's....

hope it works outWell hell I guess Im not the only one. I have a 03 also. I need to take it in but the car is going into the bodyshop and getting the Vorech put on. I just want to get this taken care of now before the SC goes on so they dont give me some BS and try and say its from that.

my 03 6MT has a bit of a rough/notchy feel in the shifter from 1st -> 2nd shifts and any shift into 5th gear. however the notchiness seems to go away once the car has warmed up.

Im not sure how often yours grinds going into 3rd but it usually starts off only when doing quick shift at higher rpms and then evenually it starts getting worse and doing it on normal shift so my advice to you is beat the **** out of the tranny before bring it to the dealer, cause if they dont duplicate the problem there not going to fix it. Make sure it does the grinding on the normal shifting.Originally Posted by G352NV

My grinding happend a lot in 3rd and 4th when it was cold...not so much after it warmed up.
I started jamming it into 3rd for a while, to accelerate the problem, so it could be recreated.
Took it in after a couple of hundred more miles. They were just going to repair the synchros, but corporate told them to put a new gear box in. No questions asked.

I have the same problem with mine (going into 3rd and 5th) when trying to shift at high RPMs--embarassed myself more than a couple times, wondering if other drivers thought I didn't know how to drive stick.
At least I'm not the only one this has been happening to.
At least I'm not the only one this has been happening to.Well I called my dealer. He said he thinks there is a TSB for early 03's. Im going to see him Thursday at 11:00. Ill let you guys know.

I had a 3rd and 5th problem and they replaced the tranny, it was pretty harmless for me! Gave me a sedan loaner and had the car back the next day!Originally Posted by G352NV

Well...........about 3K on the new tranny and guess what? 3rd is starting up again????????? I will know if they are to replace it again in the next couple of days!
FYI: I learned some valuable info on these 6 MT tranny's. It seems that as of now there are 4 different 6 MT tranny's 1) 05 2)06 3) 07 4)08. You want the 08 tranny!

I get this every winter (my second). I have no problems when it's warm out and it seems to grind in 3rd and somtimes 5th when the car is cold and the weather is about 30 degrees. Once the engine warms up, it goes away. I have 55k miles on my coupe, so it's not that serious. I would want to get a new tranny if this means failure after 70k.

I was hoping not to find this thread hoping that the car I was looking to purchase (03 Coupe) would be an isolated case but I guess not. I just got back from a Toyota dealership where they had one coupe with 21k on it. I got the vin number of the car and called the Infiniti service department to check cars history. The third gear was replaced on that car. I was shocked but then I thought that this was a very rare case where someone abused the car, but I guess not
