12.5 MPG sounds about right. Just be thankful it's not worse. I've been using about $20 per 30-35 km. That's about $1 a mile! Considering $20 is a solid 20-25 minutes of hard driving, I consider it a bargain!

Damn..I get 24mpg regularly. Even gotten it up to 27 when I drive like a beeotch. 24 is a lot of spirited and cruising at 70-80mph too. I do almost all hwy tho, but still, some of you claim 18mpg hwy? That's crazy. Ya'll need to learn about hypermiling.

You guys need to check your 02 sensors. If you've never changed them, they do wear out. You don't have to wait for a code, and they have a huge effect on gas mileage. 200 miles to the tank is not ok, will. I know people say "if yer worried about mileage you shouldn't own this car", but that's bs. Getting maximum Fuel efficiency means that your engine is running top notch. It should be just as big of a goal as HP (unless yer building a car strictly for track, but that's a totally different conversation).

 

I just hit 100k so I'm going to go through and perform a full maintenance on damn near everything. I am also watching,my oil levels to see how much I may be burning and so far I have seen about a couple centimeters below H on the dipstick after letting the oil settle. I'm assuming that's normal OC for this g with 100k. Mine is also an auto so a little worse mileage there, and I KNOW for a fact that it need to clean my fuel sensors in the tank because the gauge reads all over the place...

What I don't know is when I fill up whether my gas tank is full or if it has the filler issue. Reason why is, when I fill up all the way I can only put around 13 gallons in once I'm below 1/4 tank and and it takes about 5 mins to actually read full on the gauge, but again I could still have more gas than that so my basis of judgement may be skewed due to my gas gauge reading incorrectly.

And lastly how hard is it to get to those o2 sensors? And there must be quite a few of the, that can be pricey to replace all sensors on all banks

 

^^^ I got both OEM NTK oxygen sensors from Advance Autoparts for under $200. I ordered online and looked for a coupon code.

Blast them with PB blast for a couple of days but be careful. Even doing that I broke one of the bungs on my OEM cat....or maybe I was just looking for a reason to upgrade to HFC lol

 

There are a lot of factors when considering engine fuel efficiency. Alpha's, a/f sensor condition, fluid condition, tire condition, and inflation. just to start. spark and fuel play a roll obviously. i just turned 110K and I'm getting about 450 miles on a full tank. Im pumping 18 gallons and getting 450 miles out of it. thats 25mpg. not to bad. of that 450miles, around 45 miles of that is city. some days the lights work for me. some days ill hit every red light. thats a rough estimate. i service this car religiously. never over 3k miles on the oil, filters and fluids on point per the service manual. i run a solvent through the fuel rails every 30K with a pressurized tank. with all that said this car still runs like a bat out of hell.

I'm guessing he's referring to one of those tools where you: disconnect the fuel pump, hook a device to the fuel rail, and then it cleans/runs the engine until it empties.

I'm actually thinking of a way to make a DIY tool like this. I have a few ideas I'm thinking of and if I get it working I'll post something.

 

Yes. what we do is, remove fuel supply line from the fuel rail, install pressurized canister with injector cleaner (concentrate), remove fuel pump fuse from ipdm, and run car till contents are empty. taxa clean injectors. There is also a service we do that atomizes another cleaner via jet nozzle, that enters the engine through the throttle body. I have a video but don't know how to upload it on the forums.
