Why would people pay $89,000 for a NSX? How about for a Dodge Viper?
For $70k you get a strong VQ motor able to push 480ps with all the amenities of the GTR. Then you get reliablility. I don't see many people pushing 480ps daily without worrying about the a/f curves or a rod being broke. Plus the most advance Attessa AWD system Nissan has to offer. Im sure that 480ps will easily be able to be pushed higher probably with a ecu reflash or stand alone, exhaust, etc. Im positive it wont be a just like the G35....
So your saying smcginnis87 why not just get a G35...okie how about a 350Z there similiar to performance but you pay 4-5k more just for a backseat and some quietness? Why dont we all get 350Z's then....
I guess some people don't understand the Skyline GTR and its heritage and the history of these Powerful cars.

reports are saying that the GTR test mule is already doing faster lap times around the Nurburgring then the new Z06 and the 997 Turbo.
What reports? The new Z06 is still in protype form - there are no production-ready models in existince yet. The new Z06 has not been fully unleashed on the Nurburgring yet, and there's sure as hell no published or documented lap times yet. FWIW, the previous Z06 did the 'ring in 7:56.

That's not to say the GTR won't be an incredible car, but its even much further from production than the Z06 is. The new Z06 will be at dealerships in the early Fall of this year, while the GTR won't be in the U.S. until late 2007 at the earliest.

For $70k, the GT-R better be $35k better than a G35C. Actually, you can import a GT-R for $80k and that includes the car and full modification for the U.S. I don't think the GT-R will sell for $70 U.S., but for around $55k. Anything more and the car will not sell. Can't compare the GT-R to the NSX. Acura never meant for this car to be a mass produced car, thus the price tag. Infiniti has underwent a serious turnaround, they should thinking about a supercar after they complete their lineup. G35~>3-Series, M45~>5-Series, Q45~>5-Series, 7-Series, GT-R~>M Series. BMW sells more M3s than Acura sells NSXs. Why go after the NSX? From a business point of view, it would make more sense to tap into the $50-$60K sports car market and sell 1000 units a month than the $70K supercar market and sell 300 units a month. It would be a serious mistake for Infiniti to leave the M3 unchecked, because that may be my next car if the GT-R cost too much.

Good comments and I totally agree that the price tag is high but I doubt Nissan plans to make this a mass produced vehicle do you think? I they specifically state that they are going after porsche and they are achieving there goal and from resources, they already surpassed the performance aspect. I don't think they care too much about the M3 because the G35 coupe is probably selling way more then M3's right? This is becoming interesting because we started off with a Supra and now talking about the Skyline lol

It must be really cool to be working on the Skyline...its like Top Secret info. Like you come home and the wife goes what you been working on...oh nothing just some car called the skyline beats the hell out of me lol

i just hope it looks better than the below pic. to me it looks like crap (just my opinion). i know it's just in the testing phase.... but most car companies mask the car up really well, so i'm a little tense over that photo.

Why wouldn't they mass produce it? Alot of people (including myself) would buy the GT-R if it was $55k. That gives them $20k improvement over a G35C, not $35k. That would be hard to justify IMO. So if the GT-R is priced at $70k, then why would anyone who wants to upgrade bypass the M3 for a 911. Remember, the GT-R will be a 2+2 coupe, the 911 is a two-seater. The reason alot of G35C owners bought their car is because the of the back seat option. That's why I see the GT-R as direct competition for the M3 and not the 911. When I'm ready for an upgrade, I won't be looking at a 911, but a car with the 2+2 setup (GT). The next car in GT lineage is the M3 followed by the Maserati ($80k). They did say the were going after the 911's performance, however; they never said that it was the GT-Rs competition in the marketplace. When you bring two-seaters in the equation, then you have the Zo6, Viper, etc, which are straight performance cars and they don't apologize for not having Nav or other luxury items. The GT-R should offer some luxury like the M3. I say offer 911 performance and undercut the M3 by $10k and they'll have a winner.

That's a G35 Coupe with flare rear quarter panels. Underneath, is the GT-R. If you were a car maker and wanted to maintain the car's mystery, would you mask a production model or hide underneath a car that it shares the same dimensions and FM platform? The GT-R will be a 2+2, so it makes sense to hide it underneath a G35C.

You're right. The 911 is a 2+2, but its backseats are as useful as the ones in the SC430. Yeah, its pretty much well known that Nissan was using the G35's shell for the GT-R. Noone! knows what the real GT-R looks like. I guess their plan of staying discreet is working.
