1. The shifter isn't quite as nice as I had hoped. The throws are short, but the gates aren't very precise. It feels like there is some other obstruction that the shifter clicks through before it engages each gear.
I think the shifting sucks, mine has a catch in 2 thru 4, I hope it gets better when I get more miles on it, if not it's going in to be checked, it's not right. It feels like the syncro's are messing up and not allowing smooth engagement.

The rest of the car is very good, rides smooth for 19's, corners very nice.

radio:
-sucks, sucks, and oh... sucks.
-this is the only area where i was extremely dissapointed. i expect some level of crapiness from a stock stereo but this one is the worst i have heard.
-i won't even compare the sound quality to the acura or vette.. yes, even the vette was better (better overall bass). my wife's harmon kardon in her cooper s puts this stereo to shame. bose should be ashamed of themselves.
-plus... there is a known bug with this stereo... check this thread here:
https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-video-electronics/41302-05-bose-radio-problems.html
-i think the hu itself is good though. i love the mp3 funtionality... and the song titling options.

-regards.
I too have had a Cl type S but it was a '01, but the same car basically. I agree with everything you said up until the Bose Stereo system. I can't believe how many people are complaining about the bose system on this car......this is by far better than any car that i have owned, including the acura Cl-s.....I can't count how many times I would have the volume turned all the way up on the acura only to have minimal bass and treble and average sound quality. ON the G35 I only turn it to 20-22 and I have ample bass and treble, and way better sound quality than any previous car. I can't imagine anyone saying they can't turn the volume up loud enough while keeping the crispness of the sound.

Just like how everyone has different tastes with exterior and interior color, I guess it all depends on the person when it comes to hearing too

Yes, I agree. My wife has an 03' TL, and her stereo system REALLY sucks. You can crank that sucker as loud as you want, and you still will get no bass, and rather muffled sound quality. Even my wife complains about it, and she's not very picky.

my expectations for stock stereos has ALWAYS been low. so, the coupe's bose system doesn't sound bad to me. it just needs more highs. so, i'm just going to purchase the infinity tweeters like other members and replace them. i always thought it was common knowledge that if you want a true bass kicking, pure highs, sweet sounding system in your car, GET AN AFTERMARKET SYSTEM!!!! it's like if you want a suit that will fit you to the tee, you get it tailored. you wouldn't buy a suit off the rack at marshalls and expect it to fit like a tailored armani suit: )

I really like the blue/wheat, although the Lakeshore Slate/Stone combo is very nice as well. I've gotten many complements on the color combo.

The S2000 is one of the few cars I have not driven, so I can't comment directly. The Gc 6MT rides better than an Evo or a 04 350Z, better than the previous generation Saab 9-3. If the roads that you frequent are in good condition, it's not too bad. If they are like some that I drive, you might want to see how it handles them for yourself.

The roads right outside my neighborhood feel perfectly smooth in my Grand Prix, but in the G, I can feel many small amplitude, medium frequency inputs, like the road is covered with small pebbles. It's not so bad, but it's there. I'm going to see if I can work some magic with some D-Specs. 18" wheels and tires would help smooth this out too.

I've driven many manual transmissions . . . C5, Evo, WRX, Mustang (every kind you can think of), RX8, etc . . . The EVO is the best I've ever driven. The G's is decent. whatever the lever seems to click through doesn't really slow down the shifts, it just feels a little weird.

No. I work mostly on Domestic Cars, including PVO and SVT.

Yes, I would still sign on the dotted line in a heartbeat. Due to my profession, I am extremely picky and overly sensitive to issues like this. However, I also am very aware that no car is perfect, and ever car will have its trade-offs. Maybe my nitpicks have been blown out of proportion here . . . I LOVE the car, but if I could improve on some aspects of it, those would be it.

sorry, but what are D-Specs? are you thinking of swapping out the 19's?

D-specs are Tokico's new adjustable shocks.

Hearing that you're so dissatisfied with the '05 Sport Tuned supension's harshness that you are swapping the 19's for 18's, I wish I could trade you suspensions- the '04 suspension is on the slightly too soft and cushy side for me down here in Florida, where the roads are smooth 95% of the time.

BREAK In!

the NAV system is great ! and would still buy it again. please note if you did get it expect wires to rub and make noises while driving, this will grate on ya.

I didnt really adhere to the break in much, mostly because i know how cars are driven at dealerships and mine came with 170 miles (transfer from other dealer). I'm a believer about the majority of breakin occuring VERY VERY early 10-20-30-40 miles. As well as the highly disputed break-in methods from having the engine rev up to certain marks for a suspended period of time and having the engine cool down.

speak amongst yourselves

ppp

I completely agree with the BREAK-IN method! The first 100 miles are the most critical... after that the engine is going to do what the hell it wants to. In the old days, 60s to 80s I would agree with the old method. But with the new highly accurate lazer cuts and special coatings, I am certain it is no longer an issue. In fact, as the article suggests, it's important to get the engine "trained" to handle the high heat and rpms!

I am sure as heck gonna have some fun with my G! Not gonna puss out and keep it under 4000k! It's under warranty, and it's high quality, well made car! Have fun damnit!

My opinion after 800 miles...

Fit and finish is very good. Materials are not the best, but hey, I did not pay $40k either.

Engine is much throatier and smoother than during the first few hundred miles.

Shifting has gotten much smoother recently. It was very notchy at first and hard to get a smooth shift. Much better...not silky, but good.

Clutch is getting better as well but it is still not what I expected. It still has the "clattering" that so many 6MTs have on takeoff. I've driven many MTs over the years, from late 70s Ford trucks with column shifters to Miatas. None have had the "mechanical" feel of this clutch. At the engagement point, you can feel the transmission gears (and the clatter) I was expecting it to be smooth as buttah.

What had not been said about the B(l)ose system? It is EQed strangely and has no bottom end at decent volume. I was not expecting a thumpin' system, but this is bad. A coworker of mine has a base Altima and the system in that car makes mine sound like I bought a Aveo. Wait, an Aveo probably has a better sounding system in it. I added an amp and sub and it has helped. But it's crappy that I had to lay out more money just to make the system sound as good as many stock systems in other cars.

As for the suspension, it is everything that I expected. Yes, it can be harsh but this is a sports car with a suspension designed with handling in mind, not comfort. I expected that tradeoff. Better handling at the cost of comfort.

With that being said, I love the G. It is a terrrifc car at a great price. Looks great, drives great, and I am damn proud to be seen behind the wheel of my G.

Maybe you got a broken radio! JP!
seriously though my friend has a 3.5 altima, base radio i think though and mine kicks his ***. When i had my Acura, his speakers where better than my Bose but my G's Bose is better than his..........are you playing yours on the radio and listening for quality and then listening to a CD on his? maybe thats the problem.
