05 G35C 6MT impressions after 24 hours . . .
OK,
I haven't driven my 2005 6mt for 24 hours yet but after 180 miles here's what I have.
Clutch: Makes terrible noise when disengaged (pushed in) at any higher RPM. Really loud and obnoxious for 1 to 1.5 seconds or so while whatever it is that's making it spins down. Quiet if shifted at really low RPMs. I pray this noise diminishes otherwise I'll (gasp!) have to take it back to the dealer service department.
Seats: They feel great but what's with the crazy controls? I'd much rather have a manual recline that I can quickly adjust and lean all the way back instead of the slow driven seatback. Besides, without memory what good is all the power stuff anyway? Also, the controls should be on the side of the left side of the seat (not the top like now). They're difficult to get to while driving, especially the lumbar. The buttons in the back are silly with all the warnings about following the proper order (like your passengers are going to read that stuff before attempting to exit the vehicle).... geez.
Steering wheel adjustments: Nice that's it's there but would prefer they be manual. The power stuff is overkill here and it just adds unnecessary weight and complexity of motors, wires, etc.. Another thing to break and another pound the engine has to get moving.
Bose Stereo: MP3 feature is awesome BUT I can't the stereo to sound right. The minimal Treble/Bass adjustments are not enough. I should have expected this of Bose after experiencing their pathetic mono rear system in the Z28.
Handling/Ride: I think the ride is fine but I'm worried about the rims meeting up with some Detroit potholes. I KNOW that the latter would win. Handling is much better than on my Z28 and I love the smaller steering wheel.
Power: Seems decent but I don't think its going to be any quicker than my 1995 Z28.
Shifter: Notchy on the 1-2 shifts. Makes a metal sounding "tick" noise when going into 5th. Is there a way to get rid of the rubber damper like I did on my Z28 with a Hurst shifter?
Lights: Dissapointed that the move to the HIDs wasn't as helpful as I expected. The whiter color helps but I was somehow hoping that they would provide "more light". Interior lighting is very pleasant but rear passangers get no reading lights? Oh well, it will be a rare occasion that someone sits there that long anyway.
Squeaks and rattles: None so far (yay!)
We all know it looks hot.
That's all that I can think of for now. I'd be a happy camper if it wasn't for that clutch noise.....

a note on the break in, the engine isnt the only thing that does, there MANY other parts they break in like the transmission and the clutch and LSD that need to be broken in, so even IF the engine breaks in quickly i dont know if you can say the same for every other part that needs to be worn in
