Driver injured in fiery crash in Cypress

CYPRESS – A motorist was critically injured in a fiery crash that damaged a utility pole and left more than 100 homes in the dark, police said Tuesday.

Police were investigating whether Darrell Arce, 25, of Stanton had been street-racing in his late-model Infiniti G35.
The crash occurred at about 10:10 p.m. Monday near Ball Road and Barcelona Lane, Cypress police Sgt. Mark Parker said.

Witnesses told police that they saw the Infiniti and a tan vehicle, possibly a four- door Nissan, weaving through traffic at high speed near Ball and Knott Avenue.

The Infiniti was headed east on Ball when it hit the utility pole and a traffic signal stanchion and burst into flames.

Arce was taken to UCI Medical Center, Parker said.

About 100 homes lost electricity for about an hour.

haha wow. my mom told me about this last night. i live off ball road in cypress. lol. ball and knott is like 2 miles away from my house. anyone else live in the cypress area?

I would like to know how he was traveling east on Ball Road when he crashed, when witnesses said that they saw him racing at Ball and Knott, which is like 2 miles East of the crash site. Was he racing in reverse?

 

True if he took out my power and I couldn't play world of warcraft I'd throw a fit.

 

can you please clarify what ^this means? also, what does 'ONLY' in the hospital mean? is what the guy did ok, so long as he is alive?

 

It's a little off topic. There was a thread couple month back and this guy (Not the same one who crashed I think) was trying to argue with me that speeding doesn't kill. I am just affirming his point saying I am wrong you are right speeding doesn't kill it only sends you off to the hospital and a firey crash. (As quoted above the guy is in the hospital not the morgue.)

 

It was a new black coupe that crashed, it still had the yellow "Cerritos Infiniti" plates on the back. KTLA showed video of the car sitting upside down yesterday morning.
