To save OEM cats or not to save?

That is the question.

I replaced my OEM cats with some HFCs and have had my OEM ones laying around. Need some help on if I should sell them or if there's a good reason to hold on to them for anything.

Keep in mind:
- I do not plan on selling the car any time soon
- I live in California and the HFCs do not come with the smog stamp on the bottom needed for the visual part of California SMOG emissions.

I'd hate to see these things rot away when someone could use them! thanks all.

If you sell them and then come due for smog how will you pass?

Lol I didn't mean literally rot, just meant seeing them waste away if someone actually needs them.

And the HFCs I have pass the actual inspection but in California they also do a visual inspection and just make sure it has a state serial number stamped on the bottom. That's what it doesn't have, but I'm sure I can find a shop that will "overlook" that part as long as is passes emissions.

keep them..if you "must" get rid of them then recycle them as the internals are valuable

It's not the must factor. It's more that I know I could get like $200 for the pair but don't want to sell them and figure out I need them for anything. So I was just seeing if anyone was able to think of a reason I should keep them that I hadn't thought about yet. I don't want the hassle of having to buy back something I sold in the future.

No, no and no again! You live in CA. how are you going to pass your smog check every two years without your OE cats? HFCs will not pass...fact! With our new STAR system and the techs looking in detail at everything you'll fail. Without a CARB sticker even intakes will fail! Save your OE cats and have them installed when you need to register your G (remember to drive your G 25 miles before taking the test) they're just on vacation until you need em!

Really? With the whole car scene in SoCal you don't think there are shops that will pass smog wen without the carb stamp?? Didn't think it'd be that hard.

Don't be stupid ^ swappingg cats for your registration might cost you $60. Getting anyone to pass your G illegally will cost at least $500 if you can find em. My bud spent that kinda $$ to get his truck smogged and that was months past his due date. Star system has everyone scared of losing their test license!

Damn so does this mean I'm gonna have to find a stock intake again before my next smog?

^If your intake has a carb sticker then you're good, if not than find a stock intake.

You have better options, do some research and find an intake that comes with a CARB sticker. I can tell you Stillens CAI comes with the sticker. Check with our vendors, ask them which intakes carry the stickers. I would hate going back to a OE intake!

I have an injen intake. Not sure if it has a CARB sticker or not. Where would it be located?
I'm due for smog in December and would rather find a tech in the San Diego area to "overlook" these things. I pass smog emissions no problem.
