Question Question regarding those with an Auto Transmission

Hello all

I'm new to the forum. I am in the market for a g35. Just got out of college and landed my first decently paying gig (.NET dev). I'm looking to get an automatic due to the amount of traffic I drive in (SoCal). What I'm interested in is the "Manual mode" on your g35s. How fast does it shift? is there some delay? My mom's Kia Forte has a GIANT delay in manual mode and it is extremely off-putting to use. However, I have driven cars with a manual mode where it shifts instantaneously and is actually fairly fun to use. Is there any consensus on this on different years having quicker shifts? Thanks for any and all input. I will be sure to post my car on here and participate once I decide on one. Thanks guys!

YouTube auto transmission and transgo shift kit. It makes the shifts much better quality. Much more fun.

Well it's not that bad... It just isn't instant, that's for sure. Go drive one.

transgo shift kit+paddle shifters is my ideal setup

I have neither thus far but I am getting the transgo kit in the next week or so and will get paddle shifter kit later down the road. The stock transmission definitely shifts rather slow but most automatics from the factory always do. With the transgo its a cleaner, faster, crisper shift. Heard nothing but good things about it and plenty of videos of auto's chirping 1-2-3 after the mod.

Its like a .50 sec delay only 03 coupe. I only use it to make some noise.

There is a lil delay but you'll learn when the best point to shift before you hit the rev-limiter.

I would like to give a comment as I JUST bought a MINT G35 auto coupe with 52k miles on it just a few days ago. I am with you on the AT thing, I love manuals but not everyday, makes it "trivial" to me, manuals are for fun "weekend" cars for me. Anyway, I love this A/T, it shifts very smoothly, in manual mode it can be quicker, but I find that it depends on when you give throttle input, if you hold the throttle down it can shift pretty quick, but the transgo IS the thing to do to make these A/T's fantastic. I have watched Youtube videos of it, it looks almost as quick as a double-clutch transmission when under wide open throttle, but basically shifts like stock when driving conservatively.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy this car in A/T form, I may do the transgo kit if I don't go G37 soon; I actually like this car so much just in the past few days that I am actually considering going with a G37, since I saved up $20k for my car purchase (damn, that took forever btw), I could make that happen, though I have nothing but good things to say about the G35, except for ONE thing...the interior is well, not that attractive compared to my Legend or the newer G37's, but that's a personal thing.

Does it shift fast? Relatively, no. Is it still fast enough to be fun? Yes. Better than automatic? Yes. More fun in So Cal? Yes.

I built it up with the TransGo valve body, multiple coolers, and UpRev tuned (can change the TCM torque management to make shift even faster, less friction/heat/cooler operating temperatures.) THEN it's a blast to drive.

Where you at in So Cal?

If you search the forum I believe there was a thread that other drivers were giving their pro/con of the transGo and the stillen vale body upgrades. If I'm not mistaking everyone was lening towards the TransGo. I can't recall all the pro/cons of the two brands, but in the end the decision is yours.

I have this set up, but with a 3.7 fd with vlsd.

Truly mind blowing when you do all 4 at the same time.
