Acura TL vs g35 coupe

I am a 3rd year college student and will be purchasing a new vehicle within the next 6 months or so. I know they are in two different classes, but i have done much research and have narrowed my options down to either the g35 coupe or the new Acrua TL. I don't plan to take my car to the race track or anything like that, but i still value's a car's ability to handle and accelerate. I am a business major and plan to use the car as a daily driver and work car once i graduate. I know this is a g35-bias forum, but was just curious to see what you guys had to say. Thanks.

test drove an Acura TL 05... nice car !

one problem though was the suspension way too soft. for this reason alone i question why TL's are often compared to G35s.... prob due to the 4 doors. I havent driven a 4dr G however the TL wins my vote for more luxury inside. Plus it just seems to be abit more refined. additionally the pricing on the 4dr TL was very good at my local dealer. if they had a two door model with better suspension... chances are id be driving an acura now.

but its true , there are tonz of threads that have input on the TL vs the G35. im sure you'll make an educated opinion after reviewing the info.

An easy way to answer your own question? Are you a front wheel drive kind of guy or a rear wheel drive kind of guy? I am rear wheel drive guy all the way, test drove the TL and agree it is a VERY nice car, but it's front wheel drive, plus I wanted a coupe too!

Thats right !

good point... the TL is front wheel drive... perhaps another reason why i made comments such as i did. front wheel drive cars are subject to torque steer. Rear wheel well you guys know the deal.

Thing is for me about 95% of my time owning and driving cars they have been front wheel drive. consequently i can make a front wheel drive car scream and take it to the limit... rear wheel drive , im learning how to drive all over again and doubt ill learn as much as i did in the 13 or so while driving front wheel drive.

apparently Acura as well as Infiiniti have released an all-wheel drive version.
if the setup is the same as the infiniti i would expect torque steer on that as well.

For a daily driver, I'd get the TL. Those are nice cars and interior is much better
made than our G35's...well, at least the 03,04's.

but if it was my first car that Im going to buy with my own money out of college,
I'd get something more economical at least for the first few years just to see how
well you do in the real world. but if you have a place to crash like at your parent's
place, go for it!

For a young guy just getting out of college don't go for a sensible-looking, 4-door car. They'll think you're married with kids or it's your Mom's car.

Go for the sexy two door...

If you need the four doors, and dont need to beat a G35 in a race get the TL. if very fast to get around town and to play on the highway. the g35 would be good if you are more into racing and such. We have a 99TL with no probs at all

Where are you 2 to 4 yrs from now? If you think you'll be married with children....don't get the G. I think the TL will be a better car. However, single and still enjoying the streets....look at the G. Just being honest.....the G just has that look and is a perfect fit for the single guy. And if you want to talk performance....well...end of story.

imho, the tl is a luxury-sports car with emphasis on the luxury. the g is sport-luxury with emphasis on the sports. i had to also wrestle with the same decision. this is what i came up withL

TL:
better interior
better egronomics
better nav (if you get it on the g, it may be standard on the acura? they didnt have one w/o it at the dealer i went to...)
wrong wheel drive :/

G:
better looking (common, you know the G is sexy as hell!)
better handling (aggressiveness)
rear wheel drive

i think both cars are very compentent, but again, the tl is more competent at luxury then performace and the g is more competent at performance then luxury. both do a very good job at each tho.

It's tough to compare a coupe to a 4 door. In my opinion, the g35 sedan is a better comparison. Personally, the Coupe looks a lot better.

i agree with gsw too. i guess i ment the g coupe is a sexy beast. everytime i look at a new tl, i drool, esp the black. if it were a decision between the g sedan and the tl, i think the tl wins. (sorry g sedan owners ) thats jsut the way i feel...

i drove my managers TL, and i was very impressed, its a great car, but it had way to much torque steer, i myself would not get it for that reason. but if the TL was rear-wheel drive, i would get the TL in a heart beat
