Our vehicles use synthetic-blend oil (5w-30). The oil lasts for a little over 4,000 miles but you have to get the oil change done every 3,750 miles. You can feel free to change your oil as often as you like, it's your car. But it is a good idea to follow the 3,750 mile pattern as other minor maintenance is required at some of those intervals (for example, they replace your in-cabin air filter at the 15K mile service interval), regardless of any other times you'd like to change it.
Oil companies recommend that your oil be changed based on time if you drive less than 1,000 miles per month. Just use it as a proportion of the mileage (oil life is based on 1,000 miles for every month). So since our cars need an oil change every 3,750 miles, you should change your oil once every 3,750 miles OR every 3.75 months (whichever comes first). Oil gets dirty AND it gets old!
As for changing your oil at 700 miles, that is not necessary and pretty random. I would have at least waited until the engine/vehicle is finished braking in at 1,200 miles or 2,000 miles. You're not really "protecting your investment" with $40 worth of completely unnecessary maintenance, but it's your car so you can do whatever you want!

Blackstone Lab reports clearly show without a doubt that in our cars oil with the first 1k on it is consistant with oil that has been in for 3K already. That has been verified.. That is the bottom line.
Dont worry about being laughed at. they are the joke. Show them this

The maintenance manual (at least for my 2004 coupe) lists 3 maintenance schedules: premium, schedule 1, and schedul 2. Premium and schedule 1 both say you should have oil changes every 3750 miles. Schedule 2 says you should have an oil change every 7500 miles. The difference between schedule 1 and schedule 2 is dependent on your driving habits as well as some driving conditions.
right.. we're discussing the first change.
Obviously waiting til 3K or 3750 wont hurt anything. But if you plan to own you car for a very long time, and I do plan on keeping the coupe when I get another car in a few years, doing an early change is just an ounce of prevention, like doing a break-in in the first place. Not everyone here even bothers to follow the breakin. I dont suspect many will bother to do an early change. But the reality is that there is high metals in the oil by 1K. I dont listen to all the conjecture about it, the Blackstones are what I go by.
Now, some wear is good. You need it to properly break in the motor. But I'm not particularly impressed by the filtering ability of the OEM filter. So, really, if you think about the condition of the oil at 1000 or 1500 and our weak filtering, its not a bad idea at all to change early.
If you didnt change early, I wouldnt worry.. The VQ is still a 200K mile motor.

I got my first car when I was 2 years old. I still have that 85 Prelude running and I dont plan getting rid of it. The same goes for this one. Since both cars were bought by my father, I'll keep them both. That is the reason for me taking so much care with my baby.

I agree with you.

If I were you, I would read both the owners manual as well as the recomenced service intervals. Failure to have the proper maintaince done when it needs to be done can void your warranty If you can't prove that you changed your oil at the normal intervals (receipt for the oil and filter or from a lube shop) infiniti can refuse to repair oil related engine damage under warranty.
My dealer told me that every other oil change is free. Was anyone else told this?
Also, for the people that are changing their oils at ~1,000 miles, are you having the service done @ Infiniti, Jiffy Lube/10 min oil change shop, garage/mechanic, or by themselves?
I currently have ~400 miles on my 05 6MT. I'm going to have the oil changed @ 1,200 miles and then FINALLY (I can't wait!!!) hit a RPM higher than 3500.

umm...nah, ill pass. I don't keep any records, this is my 3rd lease and I have never had to show any paper work of any sort and I have had a lot of warranty work done. I really don't care if the car will last 50k miles, its not mine, but I am doing to proper break in and regular oil changes.
