Went to change oil, mechanic laughed...
I currently have 700 miles on the odometer and I have heard from a few people that it wouldn't hurt to get the oil changed between 500-1000 miles to clean out some of the metallic shavings. When the mechanic pulled out my dipstick he looked at the oil, went back inside my car to read the receipt again, put the dipstick back in and pulled it out again and then started laughing!
I'm like WTF! I walk over there and he asks if I really want an oil change and I told him that a few people said it wouldn't hurt. He said, "no it won't hurt, but you are just throwing your money away". He said the oil was perfectly clean, no metal shavings and that new cars don't need this done so early and to come back at 3000 miles. So i took his advice, and the best part was I didn't have to pay for my car wash with rim and tire shine! sweeettttt..

LOL carwasha t dealership is not good. Check for scratches!
BTW I got laughed at too. The book (you should have read it) says 3700 miles or 3 months. I went in after 3 months with 1800 miles and they laughed =/
Next month, I had to leave my car stored for 1 month, so I decided to do it anyway when the clock read 2000 miles (after 4 months). Now, I have 2100 and 5 months owner. Pretty soon, Ill get laughed at for paying Premium Oil change at 3000 miles =/

I changed mine at 1000 and again at 3000. Peace of mind for a little bit of $$$$. The local Infiniti dealer didn't mind changing the oil at all (easy money for them).
On another note, I changed the rear differential fluid at 2000 miles, and there were a LOT of metal shavings.

And i haven't nor do i plan on reading the owners manual....I know the norm is 3k miles for an oil change, but so many people were telling me to get it earlier.
What was I mistaken about? I know what the manual says in regards to oil changes, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to get one done...

funny i brought my car in at 5k miles and they laughed at me... hmm prob cause im getting wacked for $63 bucks for an oilchange. would have been nice if they added a reach around. seriously though i went in at 1300 , I'd find it an insult to have them laugh at me due to my desire to have the oil changed at 1300 or even 100miles. this is a premium car company (or close to it) this behavior should not occur.
sound off guys when should the rear oil be changed... should i get the rear done as well ? such as Gspotter did ?

I do my own oil changes.. the biggest pain is the splash guard. ONce that is off it is the easiest oil change ever!. I did my first one at 500 miles, ( peace of mind) and subsequent changes at 3,000 -3,500 per change. when I did the 500 mile change the oil looked brand new, I saved it for my **** box when that runs low, its a good #2 oil..

The only thing I can say is look at the Blackstone Oil report that are on the VQ and make your own decision. Don't make it based on what the dealer tells you or what the people on this forum tell you.
I reviewed the reports and changed my oil at the 1,200 mile mark.

"G35 Coupe..."
i swear those oil change #'s are getting lower and lower as the years progress. bah its all marketing gimmick. TON of money in oil and changes. I do condone oil changes just not as frequent. 5k is good for me. regarding my comment about 5k above (it was a joke) i havent reached 5k... only 1300 (hence first oil change).
talking about dumb people... local infiniti service makes me go /hmmm when they performed the oil change with 10-30. turns out to be (or so they say) a problem with parts and they'd correct it. supposidly they did put 5-30 in the car.
anyways info on rear oil ? anybody else changed it and saw metal parts ?
