Yes, I know what an analogy is, I'm not a child. You say your hands were tied because you had nowhere to go. I just meant, your hands were not tied, because you shouldn't have been following so close in the first place.

At a speed of 35mph, 3.5 car lengths is considered a reasonable safe distance. Lets take a closer look at the math, shall we? A car traveling at a speed of 30mph covers a statuate mile (5280 feet) in exactly 2 minutes. Therefor, a car at 30mph covers 44 feet every second. The G35 is roughly 15 feet long or 182.2 inches long to be exact. That means I was traveling at a distance of 52.5 feet behind him. That give me just over 1 second to stop my vehicle or I will carry beyond the threshold of the 52.5 feet. If I hesitate even .5 seconds I will hit him.
Actually I always heard the rule of thumb, is 3 seconds behind, irregardless of speed. I believe it says that in the driver's manual. (At least in Oregon and Washington). So if 3.5 car lengths equals 1 second, that is too close, especially considering you have to take reflexes into account.

You have to understand that in order for me to avoid hitting him, I must MATCH his stopping intensity. With NO side streets, Stop signs, lights or drivers in front of him, I never expected him to stop so abruptly. Why would I?
This is why you must always leave adequate space, regardless of the circumstances. What if his tires blew out, or a deer ran in front of him?

But what irritates me is there are individuals on these chat sites that hide behind the safety of the internet and firewalls and feel they can say whatever they wish to whomever they choose. They have such little respect for other people or what they are trying to convey. My attempt was to help educate and share an experience so that others don't experience the same fate. I hung my pride out and clearly pointed out to the entire G35 community that I was at fault. You obviously don't respect that.
How am I not respecting? I even said I didn't mean to be harsh. You were the one that said:

This ungratefull, paranoid, and obviously ignorant driver slammed on his breaks
and asked him what the hell he was thinking. "When slamming on your breaks like that, do you have any concept of the person traveling behind you?"
So now, he gets his "Piece-of-s**t-car" fixed on my dollar.
When reading this, it sounds like you were following too closely, rear-end him, then call him an ignorant a-hole, and that he wasn't thinking of the people behind him. Then you get pissed that he gets his car fixed on your dollar. Even though you admitted it was your fault. What "message" are you trying to convey? That's why I was irritated.

Please point out where in my post, I had disrespect for you:

It's really unfortunate what happened... But....
If the guy in front of you slams on their brakes, and you hit them, you were either following too close, or you weren't paying attention, plain and simple. You even admitted it was all your fault. How were your hands tied?

You can't really get mad at the guy. If he had enough room to come to a complete stop, why didn't you?. If someone/something were to actually have crossed his path, you expect him to hit it/run it over, so as to not inconvenience you?

I don't mean to be harsh, I just get irritated at stuff like this, becuase I've been on the other end of that stick before. One time I got rear-ended at about 35mph. The guy actually got out of his car, and had the audacity to say it was all my fault and yell at me, because the light turned green and I didn't go. He even threatened that he was going to sue me. Nevermind, I was stopped because there were still people in the crosswalk in front of me. In fact they witnessed the whole thing, and were quite upset, because the impact pushed me forward, almost causing me to run them over.

I know your case is different, but I always assume the people around me are idiots, so I don't count on them to save me for anything. I've seen people signal for a turn, and turn the opposite direction.

If you are on the drag strip you are told to start going when the last yellow light comes on so that a half second laster you start moving when the green light luminates. So it takes about half a second to react and get your cars behavior to change even when you know the green is coming. I don't think you can see another cars brakes light up, react, then get your foot on the brake in much less than a second... if that. It would probably take longer than a second. It sounds like you were following too close. The rule I have also heard was also three seconds regardless of speed.

I would like to also thank you for the service you have gave this country, and say that I'm sorry about the damage to your car. I also rear ended somebody once. It is a crappy lesson to learn.

To all....
Its been an emotional and frustrating week. I met with the insurance company today. All is well. They scheduled me for 4 Mar to repair and replace all the parts damaged, rental car, etc...

One thing to add. My insurance investigator told me that from the testimony I gave and the one the other individual gave leads him to beleive that I was a victim to the swoop and brake maneuver. As I play back the scenes in my mind, there was nobody infront of the man I hit and there was another car to my left. I was boxed in. He slammed on his brakes knowing I had nowhere to go. According to my investigator, this happens a lot in Corpus Christi. They are going to pull this indiviuals driving record to see how many claims he has. Additionaly, according to the limited damage, the investigator estimates that I was travleing in the realm of 15mph at the time of impact. The other party is claiming bodily injury following this incident. One has to laugh.

Anyway... I guess this is why my insurance doubled here in Corpus Christi when I transfered from Virginia Beach. There are a lot of scams and claims in this area.

I am still not claiming to be a victim. Obviously, if I were further back behind him, I would have had room to stop. But if in fact this is the "Swoop and Break" maneuver, these guys are experts at it and unfortunately, it will happen again, to someone else.

What really upsets me is that if this was an insurance scam, this guy did it to collect a few extra dollars not worrying about the damages to his car. I had my 9 years old son in the car with me. He or I could have been seriously injured.

Be carefull out there!!!
