Myth or Real?

Hey guys, bought a g35 coupe the other day and loving it, noticed today that one of the tire stem caps is missing. I remember reading a post that said to only buy the oem stem caps because after market ones screw up the tire monitoring system/sensor.

Is that a myth and I can just go to autozone and buy 4 matching stem caps for 5 dollars or should I go to dealership and buy 1 stem cap for 7.50?

I've had aftermarket caps on for about 3 years. No probs.

Myth.... and a ridiculous one at that. The tire pressure is monitored with a sensor at the base of the stem. Anything beyond the end of the valve is irrelevant to the tire pressure reading. It would work fine without a cap on at all, but that's not recommended since it keeps debris out of there and the sun/UV from wearing on the inside of the stem/valve.

Welcome to G35 Driver RO55! Hurry to Autozone it's a myth, caps have nothing to do with how the sensors work inside your tire! Again welcome and enjoy the ride...Gary

But it totally throws off handling if you don't use OEM... So much harder to drift that way.
