Advice About Driving To Work
Advice About Driving To Work
Hey guys, here is my situation....I am accepting a new job, but it is 74 miles round trip M-F. Buying another car is out of the question, as I have no place to park it. Will putting these kind of miles hurt me (value wise) if I stick with the job? I already have 5000 miles on my coupe and I bought it in the first week of November 2002. Please advise....should I trade every 2 years? Help!!!
Re: Advice About Driving To Work
Are you concerned with miles because your on a lease? Or is it because you plan to sell the car with a few years and you feel the extra mileage will hurt resale value? I nee more info. Per my estimates you will put on ~ 400 miles per week including a 25 mile addition for the weekend and you don't take a lot of vacations. Thus, you would end up with ~ 21K miles per year. plus your current 5k mileage.
Had your car since November and you only have 5K..that's pretty good.
If this job pays more..take it!!! Really up to you, as far as your needs and all. Hope this sorta helped?

Re: Advice About Driving To Work
You don't even have a place on the street to park a work clunker? I didn't want to commute in mine (besides the miles, I didn't want it sitting in the sun or rain all day). It actually inspired me to clean out my garage so I could fit two cars in there. Also, Your insurance will be ALOT cheaper if the G is not your primary car. I have an old altima to commute in. I got my Coupe first week of November and have 3,500 miles.

21k miles a year is fine. I think it's very normal in sourthern california. I have 2 jobs and I drive about 100 miles a day. I usually change to the other new car for every 4-5 years. Each time, I put almost 130k - 140k on the car.

Re: Advice About Driving To Work
i was reluctant to drive my car to work at first, but then i asked myself...
did i buy the G to drive it, or look at it?
needless to say, i drive it to work. personally, i think it's only a big concern if the car has some collectable value, which i don't think the G will.

I plan on keeping my car a long time. It's my daily driver. I got it as my daily commuter car and toy. Resale value is not something I'm terribly concerned with.

Re: Advice About Driving To Work
Thanks to everyone who responded....I will drive my car to work then. I guess I was apprehensive due to the fact that I am not used to driving that far of a distance on a daily basis. However the new job will pay considerably more so if I want to get another Coupe in 4 or 5 years, I should be able to.
