Unhappy I need help with California Smog Emissions. :(

So, I live in California (in the valley) and needless to say, I am required to do a smog check and no one wants to pass me because of my Injen long ram air intake under the hood. It doesn't have a "carb number sticker"? I grew up in Ohio and they never required anything like that with aftermarket parts and as you would have guessed, that sticker is LONG gone.

That said, I know an easy solution would be to purchase an OEM air intake for my 03 coupe but it's been difficult trying to find one. Unless, anyone out there knows where I can go in order to pass smog, so I can renew my registration that's due by the 24th of this month.

Any help or suggestions out there would be great!

Thank you so much!

Yeah no carb sticker will not pass smog. Id find a cheap oem intake system and use it to pass then keep it for future use.

Define cheap yet still legally able and useful to pass smog. As, I'm sure not all "cheap intakes" are California certified for smog or whatever technical jargon it is that this state requires. Haha.

*EDIT* I read your post wrong. Haha! My bad. Yeah, I've hit the board here to look for a oem intake but I haven't had any luck. Most of the people that are selling are 2+ hours away and don't wanna ship.

Best advice at this point GSpotHitta, on San Fernando Rd in Sunland there's a Nissan/Infiniti wrecking yard where you'll be able to find a OE intake. Swap in for your test and remove when done, keep it for further tests.

Thanks for your reply, Gary! I did a bit of Googling but can't seem to find the exact one you're referring to. Hmm, do you have an exact address or name of the yard?

Thanks!

Might have a shop in Garden Grove that will do it.

Nice! This might be a stupid question, but is there any difference between a coupe oem intake from an automatic or manual transmission?

Depending on year, yes, but its very minor. Installation wise they are interchangeable.

minor enough to not be a deciding factor in failing smog because of it not being the right "part" for the vehicle; meaning failing the visual inspection part of the smog?

They look similar and its OEM so you will be fine.

There are places you can go to pass, but IMO the extra cost isn't worth if its just an intake.

Did you try the YELLOW PAGES? I'd much rather see a part pulled off a car knowing it would fit rather than buying stuff off ebay and paying for shipping...Gary

Yellow pages are that big azz book someone throws on your Mommy's porch once a year! It's also a valuable asset when doing research when Google and Ask.com fails to give you the information you're looking for.
