Did I screw something up?

Hey guys. I was driving on the freeway today and I got stuck in high revs and couldn't get out until it was too late and I hit 6000rpms for a consistent 3-5 seconds. I'm still in the break-in period (750 miles) and afterwards I could smell something from under the hood. Just wondering if I screwed anything up...please ease my fears. The high reving only lasted for the 3-5 seconds.

I put it back into fifth gear and was trying to get the rpms to go down, but even though I was pushing the clutch and releasing it, the revs wouldn't go down. I'm really not sure what was happening...

That burning smell might be just the chemicals they coat the engine with burning off. I smelled it too for awhile in my car during break in period.

I'm not sure what you mean here, but I do know that our G's have a rev limiter which will keep you from going into the red on the RPM's.

Its hard to understand exactly what you did...I'd just be cautious for the next couple of days...If you notice anything different then you may want to bring it to the dealer to check it out...The burning smell is going to be there constantly over the first 1k miles or so...Its just the chemical burning off...Listen for unusual noises, and any kind of other odd shifting problems...Maybe you can be a bit more descriptive as to what you did so that we can further help you out...

I get that smell everytime I park my car, at least for the week I've had it. I assume it will stop once they are gone.

It's been driving just like normal... let me see if I can explain it better.

I reved out of a gear and fumbled the stick into the next gear because some car almost hit me and distracted me. Next thing I know I'm reving in the 6k range. So I shove it back into 5th and try to get the rpms to go down but they didn't for like 3-5 seconds after which I could smell the chemicals burning through my air conditioner.

Does that help any better?

I think you were acccidentally occupied by shock that instead of holding the clutch down AND braking to slow down, you were clutching and gassing which would explain why it was "reving"????

Yeah I smelled that too, not comming from my air conditioner, but when I got down from my car. I smelt this when my car was newer and still now, I can smell like burnt rubber.

6k rpm at 750 miles is not that bad. You didnt go past the engine redline so dont worry. About that burn smell, I bet you'll smell it for a while. It wont go away until you pass the 1.2k miles.

I think you just slipped your clutch a little too much and caused the oil to
burn up a little....or you're just smelling the exhaust gaskets breaking in.

Yes the sweet smell of a new car. A new car makes sweet smells when more heat is there. Trust me enjoy it now it will burn off soon. Now go out and slam the gas pedel in all gears. Now this is a sweet smell. Enjoy your ride its better than fish if you know what I mean!!!
