2006 G35 Coupe Sunroof Malfunction
How's it going guys, I dislike going to the dealer so i come here first!
What has happened is that my sunroof is stuck in the tilt position and the button/switch is unresponsive. One night I closed the sunroof and the next morning i came out and half of it was protruding the top of the car like it was out of its track. We got it to be in place and not half up and half down but since then it has not moved. In the beginning when i would press the open/close button it would make a loud thud as if it was tried to grab something but was missing.

Merk, I had a similar issue a while back. There is a GENIUS on this forum that posted a thread with pics on how to fix it. Long story short, there are two long screws that hold the moonroof motor in place. One of mine fell out and the other was very loose the the motor was moving around. It is an easy fix. The dealership was going to charge me 275 just to access the motor and look. They said it might need a new 400 motor. I still wonder if they would have tightened the screws or tried to charge me for a new motor.

I recently had a somewhat similar experience. My sunroof would only go in the 'tilt' position and wouldn't actually close all the way. It also would not actually 'open' up like its supposed to. I tried tightening the screws on the motor because they were loose and it didn't make a difference so I just left it like that for a month. I then decided to try fixing the issue again. What I did was take the sunroof motor out & screw it back in & did a reset. It worked and I was glad because of the weather in my area, water started coming in through the sunroof gap since it didn't fully close. The reset I did is on the same link above. Hope this helped
