Thinking to change out my motordyne TDX2...need advice

Hey guys,

I'm thinking to change out my TDX2 to something a bit quieter. I really want stay away from rasp and drone though.

Currently, the box on my TDX2 has suffered some damage and needs to be replaced. I have Vortech supercharger, ART pipes, and full TDX2 exhaust. I'm thinking to buy a resonator and change my y-pipe to an XYZ pipe. From there I'm considering a tanabe medallion or Fujitsubu exhaust. I only mention these two because they are supposedly quiet and I'm wanting to quiet things down a bit since my supercharged set-up seem to amplify things even more. I'm open to other options.

Does anyone have experience with the running a tanabe medallion/Fuji with art pipes and motordyne XYZ with resonator pipe? Are there other options that are drone and rasp free while being a bit on the quieter side?

Since I have no chance of hearing another G35 where I live I really need some help with this. If just getting a replacement box resonator from motordyne would be the better option, then I open to that as well.

Thanks for the help.

Those ART pipes are your problem, they will cause the majority of the rasp.
Get some good speakers and listen to the vids on youtube...every set up can be found. Personally, if I were you, I'd look into the Nismo exhaust as it's pretty close to stock. Speaking of, why not go full stock? That will quiet it down and have no rasp...

I run the Tanabe medalion w/mild bolt-ons (HR y-pipe, 5/16 spacer) and while it's not loud per se, I wouldn't call it "quiet". It has a nice deep sound a low rev, and opens up nicely above 3K. It does have a bit of drone at 2200-2800, though I think most performance exhausts do since the mufflers are smaller and it's nothing like I've experienced with other V6's and other performance exhausts. I've become used to it, but it is definitely louder than stock.

Sorry, I don't think I was quite clear with my set-up.

I have the TDX2 and Art pipes, but due to some damage to the muffler I'm thinking to change to another exhaust system instead. The reason being is that I want to quiet the overall loudness of my exhaust system.

Basically, I don't really have to much a problem with drone or rasp with the motordyne system at all. From all I've been reading so far, an exhaust system with a supercharger is louder compared to an exhaust system with a turbo due to the turbos acting as a muffler in itself.

That being said, I don't want to change my motordyne set-up for a raspy, droney, cheap sounding exhaust system. If that's the case I would just keep my set-up as is and get a replacement muffler from motordyne.

What I'm wanting to do though is keep my motordyne art pipes and Y-pipe, but I would buy the resonator for the Y-pipe from motordyne. After that I would just need a new exhaust system. I was leaning towards the tanabe medallion or fujitsubu exhaust as those are supposedly quiet, which may be perfect with a supercharged system. Any more advice or suggestions? Thanks for the help.

I would check out Borla Catback it very deep and mean. Not loud or raspy at all. I have Borla and ART pipes and I like it. Sometimes I feel its a little to low on sound but there are certain times it just hums so nicely. With a supercharger it would def. be sick!

Thinking about switching out the ART pipes for FI HFC's

Thanks for the info so far. Ok, so I've considered a Borla with the Art pipes as I've heard the Borla is a bit quiet. I wasn't sure if anyone had this combo so its nice to hear that someone does. Are there any downsides to the Borla?

I've considered getting the FI HFCs, but when I spoke to the guy at Fast Intentions over the phone, he said they would not warranty the HFCs if I was running forced induction. Basically, it may be ok, but the possibility of the HFCs burning out were high so Fast intentions suggested I go with their FI resonated test pipes. This is actually why I went with the Art pipes. They are resonated and suppose to be the best test pipes for our cars. This part of the exhaust set-up I wanted to keep.

Thanks for the info so far. My interpretation is that if I get a quieter exhaust system, its going to be a bit louder with my supercharger. Any more info is appreciated.

The only thing I would say is when you let off the gas at a high rpm it hisses at you. like a rattle snake vroooooooom hissssssssss idk if I like it sometimes I do and sometimes im like yo wtf. idk if that's suppose to happen but depends on my driving mood. It is def not loud until WOT but when you did gas it, it sounds awesome.
