Never mind that last post. Typed before thinking.

I just had a Q60 loaner last week, first experience with the coupe. Liked it very much BTW. Anyway, I don't think the window drop is necessary to open the door because the glass flexes inward as you pull the door away from the body. The window only needs to be down slightly in order to close the door.

It's not absolutely necessary if you're in a pinch (dead battery, etc), but it shouldn't be done all the time. If you're careful and go slow, you can open it without it going down but it bangs and scrapes against the top beam of the door. I had to do it once when my battery was dead. It didn't damage my door top, but it would if you did it regularly. I was also very cautious about how I opened and closed it.

Just leave the hood popped a bit and place rubber spacers (Home Depot) above the grille to keep it from closing.

Bumping this thread, it's time to take her out of storage.

So to update, the car was stored unlocked, battery disconnected, hood open with safety latch and windows sealed. What should I expect in terms of the window dropping?

So first step would be to....open hood to connect battery terminals, then slwoly open passanger door (in case window does not drop), then slide through passanger seat onto drivers side and start it. Correct?

Missing anything else?

Lol why couldn't you just get in the drivers side? And you could turn the key to the right from the drivers side to lower both windows before entry.

See photos in post #12, the car was reversed right in the corner with the drivers door against the wall.

Got it going. Since this was my first season with the car, wasn't sure what to expect from the windows especially with the owners manual adding confusion.

Anyway, I connected the battery and slowly opened the door and sure enough the window dropped. Crawled in through the passenger side and it started right away. All windows work as usual and no reset procedure was needed. Man, felt great to hear it and drive it after almost 5 months.

In a year or two you'll be laughing at yourself when looking back and realizing how much time you spent trying to get this right the first time. Haha. Every year when I take my battery out I think back to when I was all nervous about it the first time or two and it makes me feel like a bit of a fool.
