2005-2007 oil consumption help

hey I'm new here and looking to buy a 2005 g35 coupe 6mt. I've been doing some research and oil consumption posts keep on popping up. so I'm wondering if a lot of these cars in these years with the rev up engines have OC issues and if they had been fixed when they were still in warranty. if it still consumes oil is it ok as long as i keep topping it off weekly/monthly? Are the g35s from years 2005-2007 overall reliable? any help will be appreciated.
thanks, dan

Ugh. again.
All of the motors from any years have some kind of OC "issue"...some more than others.
Highly doubt you'll have it fixed under any warranty but there have been a few ways to slow the process down;
- valve covers/gasket
- piston rings
- catch can not using PVC location
- Tube seals
Usually the consumption comes from these areas, catch can is just there to pull it out from the intake.
Overall, these cars are very reliable as long as you do your part to maintain them. You will most likely never have a new/unique situation happen that hasn't been discussed so please search the forum next time.

Ive seen these motors go past 250K+ miles with little to no issues. Just keep in check with oil changes, leaks, and keep up to date with fluids such as coolant. You should be good to go from there.

Cheap oil rings are the cause of OC "in all" first gen G35s!

It doesn't matter how good you take care of your first gen G35 VQ or not, if you're going to have OC it will happen! Nissan claims using 1 qt between changes is normal, I've ever owned a car that used oil! Warranty's have run out a long time ago with the VQ motors! Nissan often refused to fix the OC issues with every excuse they could think of including aftermarket exhaust systems...like that had anything to do with the cause.

If you have a REVUP, you'll be good for 5 but can't run NOS stickers anymore

Can you axe your friend if he thinks a turbonator will help me get an additional 40-50 HP and +5 MPG?

Thanks.

I heard two 5/16" spacers gives you low end and high end like the 1/2" spacer.

Adding 1quart of oil between oil changes seems to be normal, at least for me (between 3-4k miles). Not a big deal, just keep an extra quart of oil and add it sometime between oil changes, maybe after 2k miles.

It sucks to have this issue, but if you are out of warranty then you are on your own. Just keep up with your routine maintenance and you'll be fine. I bought an extended warranty on my coupe just for my peace of mind since I'm over 100k miles.

that doesn't seem to bad, how much did you pay for the extended warranty?

My 06 6MT didn't start noticeably burning oil until about 170K miles. Up until that point it was burning maybe a quart on my 5k mile oil change interval (usually .5 low at about the 3k mark). I did an AMSOIL engine flush around 185k miles thinking it would help, and now my consumption is pretty obnoxious, like 1/4 qt a week.

ANY problem with these cars with be magnified on forums because this is where we turn to fix issues. This forum will have you believing every single revup engine burns oil, when that's not the case and plenty of non-revup engines also burn oil.

Good luck. Any used high mileage car is a gamble, just have it inspected and budget a complete preventative maintenance tune-up soon after purchase. Unless the previous owner has records and receipts. My car may have 195k miles on it right now, but I challenge that it's better maintained than many other cars out there this old.
