Hi Guys..
I am looking to pick up a set of rims for an 04 coupe... tire size on the front and rear is 245/45R18
Do I need just 18 x 8 rims? I am looking for a pair of Niche Targa Rims... but I see listings like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Niche-M131-T...NWYQ6G&vxp=mtr with spacers? I get really confused when I see that 5x100 +40mm added in.
Can someone set me straight on what I need for an 04 coupe with 245/45R18 tires all the way around with stock brakes (non brembo). They will fit just like the OEM rims?
5x100 is the wrong bolt pattern.
You need to get wheels that are 5x114.3 bolt pattern, and as for +40 that just means the offest heres an image. Offset adds lengths to the wheels which make them stick out some. To match oem spec you need +30 offset (assuming you have 18" 7 spoke) hope this helps.

So you're saying you want to keep your tires and just upgrade the rims? And you daily drive the car? Are you lowered? Look for something in or around:
18x8.5" +22 in the front
18x9.5" +30 in the rear
Of course with a 5x114.3 bolt pattern. This is just in my opinion, other people will have other opinions. It all depends on how you want the car to sit and look and ride. If you want 'hella flush' and scraping the ground then a different size is probably necessary. You could get 10.5" rims in the rear and stretch the hell out of those 245 tires of yours if you want to go for that look. It's all up to you.
Need to do research on your vehicle and what each of those numbers mean for it. Not knowing your own bolt pattern is not a good start. If you're going to spend the time/money on it, why not do everything you can to make it right the first time?
Asking the question here was good and now you have a good starting point to help you along this road further.

will most likely be the best for a coupe.
to clear your brembos you will need to make sure the disc size is appropriate for big brakes.
do not listen to people saying that offset is the determining factor in fitting wheels over calipers.
it isnt.
when choosing wheels, use this site to figure out offset. It helps a lot. Make sure to measure the oem wheel-to-strut distance too. http://www.willtheyfit.com/
Thank you guys! I appreciate all of your responses, its been a big help! I received the rims today and "dry fitted" them.
I noticed some play in the rim once on the lug studs When I put the OEM rim the lug studs allow zero movement of the rim.
When I put these rims on... Niche M131, part number M131188065+40 I notice a little play. As you can see from the picture, the lug studs all align but there is a few millimeters of play where I can move the rim around. (maybe about 2mm or so?) Enough that as I went to put two lug nuts on, the top lug was not centered to fit the socket around it.
Are there spacers to put around the lug studs or anything to keep the wheel so there is NO movement at all or is this to be expected with aftermarket rims and not a worry? I just don't like that after I mount the rim before putting the lugs on I can move the rim ever so slightly.. I feel once the lug studs are through the rim that rim should have zero movement or am I wrong?
Thanks again for helping this guy with his first pair of aftermarket rims....
I think I found it out... does it make sense to say the new rims need Hub Centric Rings?
The Stock OEM rims seem to measure roughly 2.5 inches and the new Niche M131 rims seem to measure 2.75 so I assume that's why the rim has some play in it?
Does anyone know what size MM the stock rims are by chance?
Ok.. looks like I need the hub centric rings from 72.6 to bring it down to 66.1 since the stock rims for the coupe are 66.1 Thanks for listening to me work through this.

Jersey nailed it ^ that size and offset will work best for your first gen coupe and you won't need spacers to give them the right look! Tire sized s/b 245/35 & 285/35 front and rear...Gary
Thanks guys... I ended up staying with the 18 inch rims, stock size although I am now considering keeping the new rims as summer rims in which case I would need a new set of tires anyway. They arrived though so I will just stick with the 18's. Next time I would go with what was mentioned to give it a little more aggressive look. Thanks for all the feedback, it is very much appreciated.
