Crank No Start

I just picked up a 2006 Coupe 6mt over the weekend. Been driving it quite a bit and loved it, didn't have any issues. Tonight I was getting back home, made a left turn onto a street and lost power while in 3rd gear. Pulled over and it cranks fine but doesn't fire.

Had it towed home and tried the spare key, did the same thing. I checked some of the fuses listed on the forum from searching and they all seem to be fine. I hear the fuel pump priming as well.

The battery connections are tight and seems ok as headlights are bright, all accessories work. Shows Service Engine Soon light on dash when I turn it to "On". I tried to check for codes using my Bluetooth code reader and no codes are listed.

Reading on here it seems like Cam and Crank sensors go bad on these cars. But they usually seem to throw a code while I have none.

While trying to crank it a few times it almost fires as I hear the exhaust but then stops and continues to crank. In another vehicle in the past this was caused by the crank sensor but not sure on this one without any codes.

Appreciate the help in advance.

I've had cam sensors go bad with no code. Sometimes they go "half bad"; as in they'll go bad enough to screw up but not bad enough to throw a code. If it was a cam sensor tho, it would still start and then throw a code if it was that bad. A crank sensor tho, may not throw a code unless you can get it started again. It's strictly a guess, but I'd bet on the crank sensor.

So I tried replacing the crank sensor and still the same issue. No codes, cranks all day but does not fire. I hear the pump priming every time. This is a Rev-up motor so I believe it has 4 cam sensors so not sure if I should replace those or how to proceed besides having it towed to a shop. Any advice?

On a positive note, it is really clean under the car with no leaks, damage or rust. Looks great for 157K.

Run a compression test and see if it has "jumped time" (timing chain/tensioner failure).

Try searching for a way to test your cam sensors manually with an ohm meter. I can't say I know how many ohms they should be reading, but I'm sure the info is either here or on my350z.com

So I was researching that exactly and seems I need a fancy scanner. And before I picked up a compression tester I figured id grab a spark plug and some starting fluid to see if I atleast have spark.

Sprayed some starting fluid in the intake and it fired right up and sounded great. Based on this I believe this narrows it down to a fuel issue. Now I need to figure out if it's the pump, dampner or something to do with pcm commanding the injectors.

I hear the pump groan/whine, sometimes when I turn to ON not always. And with starting fluid when the engine died I heard the fuel pump whine and stop. Figured it was trying to catch up to maintain pressure maybe. Have a half tank of gas according to the gauge.

Need some pointers on trying to diagnose the fuel. I've checked the relays by swapping with known good ones (head light) and still the same issue. Checked fuses as well.

You didn't say how many miles this 06 has on it. Fuel pump failure is not uncommon and it will sure keep it from starting. To test your fuel pump you will need a fuel pressure gauge , don't cost much, and find the schrader valve on the fuel rail and unscrew the core out, it's like the core on a valve stem and screw the gauge on and have someone crank the engine. No pressure ? fuel pump is bad.
You said you heard the fuel pump running but it wouldn't hurt to check the fuse and make sure you have the proper voltage to the pump.

Its got 157K. I will be getting a fuel pressure gauge, I couldnt find the schrader valve on the fuel rail in this car. The only thing I found thats similar to it was the EVAP purge valve. I see the Fuel Dampner on the back side of the valve cover on the passenger side Bank of cylinders.

The FSM talks about getting a tool from Nissan to hook between the Dampner and the fuel line to test pressure. Other posts talk about the same thing, do G35s/350zs have a schrader valve on the fuel rail to test pressure?

Checked the pump fuse and its good, going to remove the rear seat and check for voltage at the plug as well.

Is it possible the fuel gauge is wrong and the tank is completely empty? The fuel gauges in these cars are notorious (at least on G35driver) for being wrong. (contamination of the fuel sensor). Try putting a gallon or two of gas in the tank and see if that changes the sound of the fuel pump (maybe the car will start too ).

I didn't see a DIY in the G35 Coupe V35 forums for cleaning your fuel sensors; you might want to look at this:
https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-diy...0463-code.html
Clean BOTH sensors if you do the DIY. One of mine was dirtier than the other.
Hint: BEFORE you disconnect your battery AND DO DISCONNECT your battery BEFORE you open your gas tank, roll down all your windows and open your sunroof (if so equiped).
Sparks plus gasoline vapors equal explosions.
