gas pedal bushing (long post)
gas pedal bushing (long post)
To all, Hello!
I just finished installing the aluminum pedal set. The clutch and brake pads were a pain, but nothing compared to trying to install the gas pedal without a bushing. The bushing is the part that no one has, good luck! I went to Lowes hoping for a miracle and found a workable solution. In the hardware section under the special fasteners, I found nylon spacers
(size: .562x.375X1/2) This spacer will fit nice and snug on the pedal, problem is the inside hole is too large for the gas pedal rod. I also picked a metal bushing that I ended up reaming out to fit the gas rod, this is the hardway. The better way to do this is to take the nylon bushing, mix up some JB Weld fill the center bushing hole, have a few beers while the JB Weld sets up, then drill out with a 3/8 drill. Test fit and use the 3/8th drill to ream out where needed. Use the quick set JB Weld and don't forget to add a little grease to the inner hole of the new bushing before permanently mounting the pedal. cut the top clip off the original pedal and reuse on the new one. Total cost is about $4.00 bucks (not including the beers) After the JB Weld sets, you have about 20 minutes worth of work. After I completed the job, the New Castle beer just tasted better!!
To all, Good Luck!!!!
