05 6MT 1st Oil Change, How much oil?

Hi guys.

Just did my first oil change on my new 05 6MT. The manual says 5 quarts, so that's what I put in, 5 quarts of Mobile 1 Syn.
Installed a standard sized Mobil 1 filter.

Then I took the old oil and put it back in the 5 qt jug and I only got 4 out of the motor.

Did I over-fill it? Has anyone else experienced this? How many qts you guys use?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Use the dipstick. Oil burns up during driving(moreso on a fresh motor) so seeing less oil come out is normal. However, it is also normal that not all the oil makes it out of the motor when you drain it. The dipstick will tell you where the actual oil level is supposed to be.

Thats normal if you didn't warm up your engine before doing the change. The other quart is still cold and "globby" and stuck to components inside. You should always warm up your car before doing the change so that the oil warms up and drains like a race horse takin' a ****. If you did heat up your car then I don't know. Oil does burn up but not 1 quart worth. Its normal to never get ALL the oils out anyways unless you can get in there and lick every mechanical component clean.

Just curious...how many miles does your car have? I have an 05 5MT and i don't know when the 1st oil change should be done. 3K? or 7.5K?

Steve,

Did you allow for the fact that the old filter was presumably full of oil when you removed it?

I wouldn't go with Syn on my first oil change. I would give the engine at least 5k to wear in before swithching to a synthetic oil. just my 2 cents.

I don't mean to highjack this thread just got got another question...

When I take the car to the dealer will they ask me if I want Syntethic or regular oil?

I would do it myself but dang there's just no time.

Dealer won't ask questions. They already have a set synthetic blend made for our cars. All you have to say is "oil change please".

Oil Changes

Are you guys serious about the 1200 then 3000? I am just a driver...not very informed on all the parts and components and how they interact. I am about to get a G and wanted to make sure I know what to do with it when I get it.

Please advise.

Dang the tranny oil too? Why is it so necessary to change the oils really early on in the life of the car? The stuff which comes from the dealer is worth poop?
