I think you guys changing your engine oil at anything less than 3000 miles, and your transmission fluid at anything less than 30,000 miles have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) or something like that.

 

Might be an idea to change out the original oil a little early. It get rid of any metal shavings from the assembly process.
The dealer may ask you if you want synthetic, but to make sure you get what you want, just tell him.

i highly doubt that the oil filter takes up one quart.

like other people said, check your dipstick... it should give you hatch marks on a "hot" or "cold" measurement.

 

yeah, check the blackstone lab reports on g35owners, new oil with 1000 tested like oil with 3000 on it already. More than enough reason to change as soon as convenient. But you certainly wont hurt anything by waiting. This early wear is good wear. You just want to minimize wear after 5K.
