My brother got a big ticket...

105 in a 65 on the NJ Turnpike. They hit him for careless driving too. He's going to get a lawyer but what do you guys think is reasonable to hope for? This was obviously really poor judgement on his part and he deserves to be penalized but I'd hate to see him get 8 or 10 points and possibly his license suspended.

About a year ago I was caught doing 109 in a 55. I kept pushing the ticket through the court system until it got to the court of common pleas. I went in there and they lowered it to 80mph (5 points on license) and I had to take a class or else I would have had my license suspended. This was all done with no lawyer at all. Hopefully he will get a forgiving judge.

Can you explain what you mean by pushing it through the system? Thx

I waited until one of the last days that they wanted me to pay the ticket and then sent them a letter stating that I prefer it goes to the court of common pleas. If I did not have the ticket sent to the court of common pleas, I probably would not have a license right now. The whole process took close to 3 months to complete, then after the court date, I had another 3 months to take the agressive driving class.

Ah man.. Im never going to excessivly speed again, Im just going to wait until the summer when I go to the track. This gets me a little worried, ESP with this car because I feel like Im always pushing the limits of it and going a little faster every day. Im gonna have to stop before I put an end to my life and possibly others

The same exact think happened to my friend a few months ago. He was doing a 104 on 65 in his Explorer around exit 135 of the NJ turnpike.

When he went to court without a lawyer, the judge told him to leave and come back with a lawyer. If not, he was going to get 10 days in jail and 30 days suspension.
He went back with a lawyer and basically had to beg the judge not to jail him. He ended up escaping with a 30 day suspension, points, $500 fine, lawyer fees, and surcharges for 3 years
However, every town is different and every judge is different.
You MUST get a lawyer!!

never plead guilty...goes on ur record for 3 years... next time just get a traffic lawyer... they dont have to tell ur rents... u just pay him about 60 - 80 bucks usually, and they go to court for u and all that and work their magic and bam no points, no insurance rate increase, and ur rents dont find out...

Plead not guilty, push the ticket back as much as you can, hopefully the cop wont show up, pleading guilty is crazy it wont help, best thing is traffic school with guilty plea bu thats only 1 point off. plead not guilty

I got a ticket for 107 in a 55 in Atlanta, GA... Atlanta is extremily strict about speeding tickets too...

I got a lawyer... paid him $600 and we went to state court. He got me off with just a $300 fine... no suspended liscence, no fine, no community service, NO POINTS, and NO RECORD.

So total costs out the door was $900.00 in attorney fees and fines??? And insurance never found out I take it since no points were declared? If thats the case, you got a bangin deal cause insurance would have added that same thing to your premium, AND all other insurance companies would know in case you wanted to swtich.

last year I got "Reckless Driving in Excess of 95 in a 55." Get a lawyer, he will most likely drag it out and get it reduced. Or, if you are in the military, milk that for all its worth- a few months ago I got a ticket for my tint the day before coming to back to afghanistan. later I called the court clerk from a satellite phone on the afghan-paki border and got it all dropped out of sympathy. score! same thing happened last year with a 80 in a 55.
