TRANSMISSION STUCK In 5th GEAR

I was on the freeway shifting from 5th to 6th and the trany just locked up in 5th. I could move the shifter laterally, but not into any other gates. Any idea what could have caused this? Ever heard of this happening to other 6MT's?
Got my car to an Infiniti Dealer, but they are denying me any warranty coverage on it. They wouldn't even open the trany to see what's caused this. Is it just me or does this seem like a lot of BS? Please advise
thanks

......they can't just deny your warranty? Find another dealer who understands the concept.

Denied you warranty service based on what reasoning? Do you have significant modifications done to your vehicle?

^ What spendgy said....or are you out of warranty? Also, if you tried to shift to a lower gear at high speeds, sometimes that impossible...I don't know if our cars were made that "smart" or if its all cars, but my guess is maybe you tried to downshift, realize tha wasn't going to work then went to 6th???

If not, sometimes its hard to go into gates....wierd phenomenon but I'm sure you can now right? If it works now, then I wouldn't have anyone open up as that will be a can of worms in itself.

Goodluck...

When Infiniti replaced the transmission in my 2003 G35 6mt (3rd gear syncro was gone at 6,000 miles). The NEW replacement trans was installed in my G only to find out it was stuck in 5th gear. Nothing the techs did worked, so they had to take it out and put a third transmission in which works like a charm...
Find another Infiniti Dealership or call Infiniti Customer Service. They shouldn't deny you warranty work unless you've extensively modified your G...
I already had quite a few mods on mine when they replaced my trans!

********EXTERIOR-MODS********
Carbon Fiber C-Pillars, Rebadged SKYLINE/NISMO Emblems, Blacked-Out Lower Rear Exhaust Fascia, JDM Clear Corners w/PIAA LED's, PIAA Clearance Bulbs, Brushed Alum.Finished Front Grill, ANTI-PHOTO & LASER Tag, JDM Battery Cover, Polished Cam Covers, Carbon-Fiber Finished MAF...
********INTERIOR-MODS********
FIVE-SEAT CONVERSION w/ Lap Belts & Interchangable Pad or Rear Seat Console, Hide-Away PASSPORT (G-Timer), 2004 Front Console w/Arm Rest, 35% Window Tint, NISSAN Drilled Pedals, NISMO Shift ****, NISMO seatbelt Pads, SKYLINE Door Sills, Skyline Trunk Mat, Remote Window-Up Mod, VDC Memory Mod...

I'm still under warranty and have only bolted sway bars onto my car. This is my 2nd trany already. Synchro's went out on the first one at 4500 miles. On the 2nd trany I mentioned to Infintiti a few times that a spirited shift into 5th would miss the gate to the right. They said it was "normal" so I kind of shrugged it off thinking it was that important of a battle to win. Wonder if missing the gate for 5th and it now currently being stuck in 5th are related.
thanks for all your advise

Couple of questions, I'm just trying to get this situation a bit clearer:
1. You said you miss 5th to the right in spirited driving. This being the same gate that leads to reverse?
2. You are still stuck in 5th? (So would have had to have taken your car to the dealer/home on a flatbed/tow truck?)

Just a quick thought. With your tranny stuck in 5th it would seem to be a syncro problem, or perhaps your clutch plate is not traveling far enough for you to disengage from the gears.

As far as your dealer denying warranty. They cannot deny a warranty claim, they do not make the car, Nissan does. Only Nissan can deny a warranty claim. Unfortunately your dealer will be the one feeding Nissan information on this.

You should file a complaint against this dealer with Infiniti and go to a dealer that will help you. It seems like only bad things will happen if you continue to go to a dealer who doesn't want to help you out on an obvious warranty issue.

Definitely go to another dealer. I just had my tranny replaced for the first time. My car is at 39,000 miles and theey had no problem with replacing it. Of course they did ask me about the aftermarket flywheel, and I told them I had it installed at a NISSAN dealership. This all came about after the tranny was reeplaced though. As far as other mods, I've got alot but no problems from the dealership concerning them.

Good Luck,

Ray

take it to another dealer but don't say anything other than its stuck in 5th and you have no idea how or why. sometimes when you give them too much information all they do is use it against you.

thanks for the advise, but there's a more to the story that doesn't make taking it to another dealer an option. My car has been in the shop for warranty work somewhere around 45 days in the 18 months I've had it (not counting this episode). So I had a lemon law claim filed asking for a buy back of the car. I was on my way to an Infiniti at Nissan's request because they wanted to inspect the car when my trany got stuck. The Nissan Arbitrator is the one that said no warranty work is to be done on my car because it will only strengthen my case against them. They won't even open the trany and nor did they ever offer to fix it for $$. Ever hear of a service dept turning away paying customers???
I asked them to do some TSB work on my car but they refused and said "we cannot do any warranty work on your car". Can't imagine being able to take it to one of the other 2 infiniti dealers in town and getting warranty work done. See they think that if I cannot take it to an Infiniti for service I'll take it elsewhere to get it fixed. But I realize that this is what they want me to do as it will certainly weaken my case against them. Infiniti Arbitrators, if you're listening, kiss my ***....I'm not taking my car to a non-infiniti shop to get this fixed!!!! Anyway, not really sure what I'm going to do, but I'm not picking up my car until I have all my gears back.
thanks for all your responses.
GZire, yes it is still stuck in 5th. After waiting 2 hrs (no BS)for the tow truck I became a little frustrated when it finally arrived and wan't the flat-bed variety so I drove it ~15 miles to the dealer.

Wow. Sorry to hear it's so bad with your car G3NUI5.

Best of luck on getting the lemon bought back.

sorry, don't want to hi-jack... But how do you know if your syncro's are bad or need replaced? Is it extremely hard to get into gear, or just doesn't stay in gear?

Sorry to hear about your situation, keep us updated on the lemon law. Can't you somehow use the fact they won't service it against them? I'd definitely contact infiniti customer service.
