This has happened twice, the first time I lost power, went into limp mode and had to turn the car off and back on again on the side of the road before being able to drive normally. The VDC and slip lights went away that time, SES light stayed on. Drove fine and got me to work the next day, however on the way home, it did it again. Only this time, the car wouldn't start- at all. It wants to, and it tries, it cranks, its not a dead battery. But it refuses to allow itself to start. So now my JUST purchased in cash 05 G35c is now a sitting work of art in a Walgreens parking lot.
Going to try and get the codes pulled today, but does anybody have any idea what this could be? I read up a lot that it could be the cam/crank/throttle position sensors, but everyone else was able to at least get their car started again if they waited a bit. Just kinda worried the car is shot the day after I got it 😂

 

More than likely it's a camshaft position sensor, you have 2, or a crank sensor. Look for P0345, 0340 or 0335. My guess it's one if not more of those. What year is it and how many miles does your car have?

 

It's a 2005, just hit 177K miles. The problem just seemed a bit more odd than others. Everything describes exactly the same problem others have with the cam/crank sensor, and the first time it happened I was able to turn the car off and back on, put it in drive and was fine (besides the SES light). The second time it happened, went into limp mode, couldn't accelerate, lost power steering, etc. Tried to turn the car off and back on to at least make it home like the first time- with no success. It cranks, etc, etc- and even ALMOST started a few times, but felt like something was disallowing it to, intentionally as to not screw something up more.

Sooo, it's been sitting in a Walgreens parking lot since about 8pmish last night. Gonna' see if I can't figure out how to get the codes pulled today and confirm it. Just the absolute refusal to start, startled me a bit as that was completellyyy different from any similar problems I've read about.

(if this turns out to be the problem) Are the crank and cam sensors a pita to replace on your own? From what I gathered they're right under the engine cover towards the front and just snap/bolt on/off?

Probably died on you because it doesn't want to be seen with those wheels rolling around town .

 

Yes, the wheels are one of the first things on the list to be changed. Everyone in person has said they love them, I, however- think they look atrocious.

Found the DIY for the crank sensor and CAM sensors, doesn't look too hard. Gonna' run the codes and see if I can't pick them up today if anywhere has em (if thats the issue)

 

I recommend Duralast (auto zone) or OEM as replacements, my D replacements have been going 3 years strong... after oems failed on me while on a date night haha.

 

Passenger side did nothing. About halfway through doing the driver side cam sensor. Will update!

 

No luck. Continues to crank but does not start. Just going to have it towed and checked out tomorrow.

 

Don't continue to throw parts at the issue and beat your head against the wall before you get the code/s read. I will respectfully disagree with Urban as a general rule our cars like OEM sensors best. Some have had success with aftermarket but there are tons of reports on Driver from people that bought aftermarket which failed quickly then went to OEM's and never had an issue. If you bought aftermarket then they could still be an issue. I'm hoping it's a bad crank sensor or one of your aftermarket cam sensors failed because outside of those options you might be looking at a costly repair. Keep us posted.

Or my sig, can't believe anyone that knows even a smidge about their cars doesn't have an inexpensive bluetooth scanner and an app like Torque Pro. Both can be had for under $20 total, maybe the best bang for the buck "mod' there is for our cars.

 

update us with everything please. im having the same problem. replaced the cam sensors. still no luck. keeps limping and lost a ton of power. the g is driving me crazy and im almost gonna throw it away.

 

It's been at the Infiniti dealer for a few now. Ended up not getting any fuel pressure, they're thinking bad fuel.pump, won't know till later today though. It's also apparently throwing codes for airflow and throttle body? I'll see if ai can't have them give me the specifics when I call them later. But thats my situation so far!
