Burping coolant system question

2005 auto coupe
Replaced radiator, upper lower hose and thermostat.
I have done this before, but the issue is new to me. While removing the air from the system (bleed plug open), the lower hose is not getting warm. The coolant overflow is going back into the resevoir once it heats up. Is this a sign of a bad thermostat, or air still being in the lines? I am just letting it cool, pulling resevoir and placing it back in radiator, and repeating.

Thanks for any tips

Well, I have heat now, so I'll continue doing what worked last time. Run around the neighborhood, let it cool, top off, repeat.

Well , the lower hose is still not getting warm, so I ordered another thermostat.
Will get back to it later.

Thanks

Rather than wasting your $$ on a new thermostat, test the one you're replacing! Submerge it in a pan of water and start bring it to a boil all the time watching it's reaction. If it opens between 180 and 200 degrees the thermostat isn't your issue. I could write a book about thermostats and how they react depending on the circumstances.

I hear you, but Rockauto sent another out. This is my second car, so I'm in no rush. When the new one gets here I'll check it and the one I pull out. It was a new motorad brand from Rockauto. I did not test it before install.

There is still a chance I have air trapped, so if I find time today, I will work on it again.

I wish all thermostats has those little air purge check valves installed in them.

Lisle funnel saves the day. There was a large amount of air in system, and the Lisle worked like a champ. With the hood up, I could see the funnel while revving the car, and watch the Scangauge.
Back in the road again.

Thanks all
