So this fell off

Went to open the passanger door and heard this drop. Figured that it probably popped back into place. Am I missing something for it to stay put. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So theres supposed to be a metal piece that pops into the piece that feel off and then screws into the screw thats inside the door. I didn't even loosen the screw so I have no clue why it fell off. If there is a piece missing I might have to go find it in my garage tomorrow morning or hopefully it didnt fall inside the door compartment.

I'm almost certain there's supposed to be little tabs of plastic that are raised up on the end opposite where the screw retainer is.

It's called a "door escutcheon", there are passenger and driver door variants because the driver side one has a hole in it for the key. People typically do a "keyhole delete" and use a passenger side one on the DRIVER door to cover up the keyhole.

Nope I was wrong, I went out and popped mine off and you're missing the metal block that's supposed to be behind it which is held into place with that screw.

I wonder if someone tried to break into your car through there... that escutcheon should never just fall off. Mostly people only bring this piece up if they are hiding their drivers side keyhole by adding a solid one to the driver's side.

Yeah I walked in to my garage this morning and found the metal piece on the ground. I’m really doubting someone tried to break into my car but the screw might have been loose somehow. Now I just need to find a way to put it all back in place. Thanks for all the help guys.

I always thought there would be an extra key hole behind that on the passenger side. A locksmith tried popping it off one time to show me and I made him stop so he wouldn't scratch up my ****
