MAF fell off - story
Me and my wife were taking a short drive to the post office when suddenly the dash started lighting up and navigation was beeping. VDC, slip and check engine light lit up. I was coasting down hill so I didn't realize I couldn't excellerate.
When I got to the flat straight away I tried to excellerate, but the car was just bogging and I could only lightly touch the gas to move. Going about 5mph I finally pulled over. My wife was yelling at me about always playing with "the button over there". She was reffering to turning off the VDC. Then started yelling at me about racing too much. Had me thinking because I was playing with a GT on the way to visit her at work.
I finally flipped up my navigation and read the message about VDC, check engine and finding local Infniti dealership. First thing that came to mind was "reset ecu". I turned off the car and turned it back on. I was able to drive about 10 feet before the car started bogging again. Turning off the car didn't help so now I have to reset the ECU, but I have no screw driver to unplug the battery. I couldn't even remember the pedal sequence to reset the ECU. I remember it's "turn on 3 seconds, press 5, 7 or 10 times? My wife just stared at me like I was going crazy while I pumped the gas pedal. I finally tried calling strictly Z and gruppe S. Gruppe-S just reffered me back to disconnecting the ground on the battery.
Since I can't remember the ecu reset by pedal then I'll see what I can do about the battery. I popped the hood to find my MAF with filter had fallen off. I was so releaved. Picked up the filter and showed my wife what I found with a smile. She wasn't amused at all and continued playing with her nails.
My house key was put to good use and got the filter back in place. (my intake system is an Injen CAI made into a short stack with some turbo sleeves.)
got back in the car and took off. The pedal was very responsive so i guess during that whole bogging thing the ecu picked another map. I wanted to leave the car that way, but I need to get rid of the check engine light, so my car is sitting unplugged in the garage.
Just wanted to share just in case someone runs into a similar issue. Another thing, block out all back ground sound so you can keep focused and don't go crazy .

Re: MAF fell off - story
Funny stuff. My gf yells at me all the time too. For playing with this or doing that and I just can't leave it alone! Good story
