Did some research and couldn’t find an answer, what is the purpose of the stopper bolt on the compression rods? Its the little bolt that comes off the side. It’s driving me nuts not being able to figure it out.

So bizarre that you're the first person who I've seen post this question in my 9 years on the forum. I've wondered the same since I started working on my car back in the day and now I'm really looking forward to the answer. C'mon people, someone give it up!!

 

Yeah i searched all over and the best I could find were replacement stopper bolts but nothing about what they actually do. They have to serve a purpose otherwise why put them on there, right?

 

I always assumed it was a hard limit for the steering to keep things from knocking into each other, but I dunno!

 

It's a hard stop for your steering rack. You can actually trim those bolts and get a better turning radius but you'd be over stressing your steering rack if you push it too far and would probably end up breaking it.

Anyhow,

The bolt is designed to stop and/or limit excessive travel of the rack and pinion also, to prevent the wheel from over turning into a range which it will not function, or function outside of its safety zone.

 

 

It's probably just a latching point during the assembly process, all vehicles have them in all manner of wierd places.

This vehicle probably gets the engine/suspension assembled as a unit and that bolt is what the latching mechanism holds during that part of the assemble before the chassis is planted on to the drivetrain.
