05 Front End Noise

Man this is aggravating the daylights out of me, and I am hoping that somebody else has had this situation and can help me out.

When going over little road imperfections, it sounds like something is loose in the front suspension. It will make a little rattle and knocking sound. I have looked and looked and checked the ball joints, replaced the front struts and I just don't see anything that could be causing it. I took it to Les Schwab and of course it didn't do it on his test drive.
Anybody with this experience?

Probably the front upper control arm bushings where they connect to the chassis, it's a known weak point. Typically you hear it when going over speedbumps and such right?

Most people don't check ball joints properly. A visual will only catch worn dust boots or catastrophic failure. You hand just doesn't exert the same forces as a 3800 pound car moving at speed either.

A proper check includes measuring the torque required to move the joint and comparing it to the spec listed in the service manual. There are 6 ball joints on each side in the front of these cars, it's usually easier to just throw new parts at it, lol.

Common culprits of noises are end links, worn bushings, wheel bearing, and ball joints.

Common complaint. I have the same with only 22000 miles on my 04. The high temperature here in AZ can damage the rubber parts as much as driving. Mine was most apparent at low speeds when hitting small bumps or cracks in the road. Have replaced the front lower control arms and the rubber bushings were damaged. Next replaced the sway bar links with no change. Next the front compression rods with little improvement but it is now at a tolerable level. The suspension and tires on the car makes little problems seem even worse.

Another part to check out are the upper control arms in the wheel wells. The ball joint in them is a common source of failure and thus, noise.

Also check your swaybar is still tight on the end links and chassis mounts.
