Question about Jdm g35 motors

Hey guys, so unfortunately my 03 g35 had a small oil consumption issue when I purchased it, and now I have a slight engine knock. Im looking at a few places that specialize in sourcing really good condition jdm g35 motors , after a few phone calls and a lot of research Ive narrowed it down to about 3 places. My question is will I run into any issues installing a jdm g35 engine in a us spec car? Will I be able to just drop the motor in and reuse my factory us harness? Im having the shop that will be installing the new motor install a new clutch, water pump, thermostat and new hoses. Anyone ever done this before, were there any issues?

Yeah literally the same motor from the same production facility. Remember these cars actually CAME FROM Japan, every single piece was assembled at the same plant.

Bringing this thread back for an update and quick question. I didn't want to create a new thread. So Everything went smooth, the Japanese motor (40k miles) was installed along with z1 motorsport silicone hoses, a new thermostat, water pump, new clutch, spark plugs a plenum space hfc's and some other items. The car is running extremely solid and feels like a new car. Now, i've don'e a lot of research on this on the forums and just in general but haven't been able to find too many threads where someone swapped out a us vq35de for a japanese vq. I know they're essentially the same, but i really feel like my previous engine was a little faster, I was able to grab second gear, even third sometimes but with the jdm motor i am not, torque also felt a tad bit more noticeable. Has anyone ever done this, if so how has your experience been? Maybe its just a placebo from having not driven my car for a few weeks.

Out of curiosity, where did you have this done? I’m in MD as well and since my Nissan mechanic moved to TX I’m trying to find a new place that knows G’s well.

I’m trying to line up a place for when my motor eventually eats itself.

I got my motor from jdm westside in San Diego CA and had it installed at Metro Motorworks, a shop in Elkridge MD. It’s a tiny shop, but the only shop I have my g35 serviced at because I’ve known the owner for so long. I’d check out hills garage, they’re a specialty Nissan/Infiniti shop, they’re pretty good.

No they're not "essentially" the same they are LITERALLY the same motor, from the same plant, in Japan. Look at your VECI label in the engine compartment, it tells exactly where that car came from. It's written in both Japanese and Engrish. I would do a compression check just to make sure everything was mechanically good. I would also check it with an OBD2 scanner and verify timing advance was correct, WOT it should spike advance up to about +40 degrees.

It could just be the plenum spacer and HFC's you added that are screwing with the AF sensors and causing it to wig out a tad, or the knock sensor might be catching some predetonation and pulling timing back. You should plan for an Uprev tune in your near future

Thanks for the help Cleric, I appreciate it. Compression numbers looked good before the install. I’ll look into a tune, and the timing, thanks again.
