The 2005 base 350Z has 287 HP, the 2005 6MT has 298 HP. That might offset the weight advantage the Z has.

I don't buy it. Somebody show me some concrete evidence and I may change my tune!
In my manual it's listed in section 5. Yours could be different.

Before I take the advice of someone with nothing to lose (i.e. anyone who doesn't own YOUR car) I'll trust the company that engineered and sold me the car, as they'll be the ones I turn to with mechanical problems - NOT the idiot who told me it didn't matter.

Base 350Z should be quicker. Until he tries to put people in HIS back seat LOL..

false...willl engine tolerances are tight....they are wide enough to allow some cars to be quicker than others...how the car is broken in can make the difference as well...so far the fastest 2005 350z with 300 hp went 0-60 in 5.6....and 1/4 in 14.0.....Again how you break your car in...and how you treat it is going to make the deciding factor.

I agree that the Z is a little bit faster...with the same drivers in each car...but I made up the difference with shifting...When we took off off the line we were even untill we shifted to 2nd, I inched up maybe a foot, but then through 2nd gear he started inching back, but by the time he pulled back even we had to shift to 3rd, where once again I started gaining momentum (about a foot again), then through 3rd gear he would gain back...ect.ect....But thats also an "unbroken in" Z vs a broken in G..(might have been the difference)

I am convinced that the Z is faster then the G but only slightly, and can be made up for with a good vs. average driver.

With my mods from a 4th gear roll, I pull on stock Z's all day long.... by the end of 5th I have minimum 1 car length. There is a VERY slight differnce between the two stock for stock. It comes down to whos the better driver stock vs stock... or whos replaced more of what. I've raced minor bolt on Z's (Intake system and exhaust, no cats plenum or headers) and even still, its just not the same. I've raced one Z at my EXACT level of mods and lost only after 110 mph. Correct me if Im wrong... but the G is slightly more aerodynamic (produces less drag) so until the weight really came into play (really high speeds) they should be an almost identical match up. Oh and Suspension wise.... the G's suspension is actually setup for launching better than a Z as it "squats" eaiser... so 1/4 mile comes down to if you can take off harder than a Z, you got it, if not, youll finish with your nose on his gastank/door.
