Brakes and rotors

Hey guys I just got an oldish g35 2003, got it at least somewhat working condition by a mechanic. Now i have to put on some new brake pads and rotors. I check online and there are just so many different answers and options and i dont know what to pick or which is the right one to get. I wanna know what others have on their infiniti g35 2003. There were 2 options for 2003, Brembo, and not Brembo. If you're unsure what you have take a good picture of the front and rear calipers and post it back here.

In 2005-2007 there was a different caliper that falls between those two earlier options in terms of performance but that will show up on your search list because it's all part of the same chassis. 2007+ there was the option for Akebonos which may show up in your search as well.

@cleric670... I got a good deal on a OEM brembo brake caliper kit. I own a 2005 6MT and I'm planning to install the brembos using this [Z1 350Z / G35 (Brembo) Brake Upgrade Package] kit. I've done some research and I haven't gotten a definitive answer. I have two main questions.
  1. Do I need to purchase adapter brackets to install the brembo calipers?
    1. (I've gotten varying answers, i'm almost certain the Akebono's and real big brake kits are the only ones that need the brackets.)
  2. Will I be required to cut my existing dust shields?
    1. (I heard replacing them is a pain).

You have to check the clearances of your wheel rims. Some members with the Brembos had issues with the aftermarket rims not fitting around the calipers.

I've got Stoptech rotors/pads, and they've handled a very large amount of abuse bombing around the Blue Ride Mountains in VA (if you've been there, it's tight and technical, gives the brakes a workout). They're average when cold, and bite like crazy when hot. Had the fronts (seized rear caliper necessitated new rotors/pads) for 25k miles and still in fantastic condition, considering the aggressive driving I've done.

Unless you're tracking, don't bother with slotted rotors, and honestly stay away from drilled. I've never had brake fade even an hour into my mountain drives.

Might be too late for you but...I went with OEM. On my 07 I rarely autocross, and the low dust and noise of the stock rotors and pads really won me over. Also, sometimes aftermarket rotors get very ugly with rust, and with the stock 19 in rims, they would be so visible. In the end, i know i don't have the best or least expensive brakes, but I think the OEMs are a very good compromise across wear, noise, rust, performance, and cost.

That kit from Z1 has just about everything you need for the conversion. No adapter brackets are necessary for the calipers, but you'll need 4 caliper bolts for the rear calipers (Nissan part # 080412351A). The front non-Brembo bolts can be reused. You are correct that the Akebono BBK requires caliper brackets for the fronts, but no brackets for Brembo.

You will need to trim the rear dust shields in order for the larger rotors to clear.

Happy to help if you have any other questions - I've done both the non-Brembo to Brembo conversion on my G and the Akebono BBK on my Z. I would strongly recommend getting a Motive power bleeder to get out those pesky air bubbles.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, your OEM 19" Rays will clear the Brembos just fine.
